Stephanie came down as she generally did. She seemed more thoughtful today than concentrated, coming over to him. "Alexander, could you help me with something, please?"
He looked up at her, a small frown on his face. He put down his tools and shut the panel. "Sure. With what?"
She returned the way she had come, kneeling down and slipping underneath the engine, pulling off her goggles and handing them to him. "Do you see this fuse? Can you just weld it down for me on my count?"
She shifted over to the side and began working on old, rusted gears that sparked dangerously. As he watched, her fingers darted through the moving parts quickly, her brows furrowed. "...now."
There was a loud clunk on her side and Stephanie squinted before her eyes widened appreciatively, and a small smile crossed her mouth. "Ah. Perfect, Alexander. Thank you."
He looked up at her. She wouldn't be able to see his eyes past the goggles. He took them off with a small sigh, giving them back. "No problem."
A little bit would pass before he would hear Stephanie curse and there would be a loud, obnoxious clanging as she took a hammer to the machine. "Mother" Clang. "*squee!*er!" Clang
She glanced over in surprise, clearly not expecting to still see him. "Oh. You're still here." She tugged off her goggles and sighed, glaring at the machine. "I created this thing, you know. Built it with my own two hands. For a long time it was just me and it." Her voice turned poisonous. "I would rip it to shreds if I could. This must be what it's like to have terrible children."
