If you're just appreciating the show, are you a brony? *Scratches head.*

I really mean the fan material, not quite the show, I s'pose. Since pony art/stories are also considered furry art/stories.

Too tired for sense now. *Grabs his kitty for use as a pillow.*

That's really up to them. Some would say Yeah sure, others may not want to identify with it and just stick with the show only. *shrug*

There are plenty of people who like the show but do not label themselves bronies, if that's what is being said here.

in my opinion, labels are silly in general. they come with bad and good, and many people will look mostly at the 'bad' if such labels are really quite out of the ordinary - based on the society around them.
Everyone is different, and should be able to pick and choose how they see themselves and how they may want others to see them as.
In saying that, labels are more identifiable, such as medical conditions or something.

I used to be a furry before "Bronyism". And i still find both the fandom's interesting and sometimes exciting, sorry to be so neutral.

Ahh, I feel rested, revilized, and I did get scratched a few times while trying to use a cat for a pillow... but anyway~! I, long before FiM came to us, was a furry artist! (You can't tell, right?) Like, 95% of what I did was tame enough to show, as the other 5% is humanoid nudes. Nothing beyond nude models, I didn't want to spoil my fun.

I did a lot of cute though.

I also dabbled in things like dragon heads.

In fact, I still do a little.

So, I'm focusing more recently, digging directly at the brony column of artistic media. Drawing and writing alike.

Well, there is a sub-class in the furry community that has to do with reptiles.... They are called scalies^^ I think you can tell why .-. either way they'd still be considered furs.

Funny you should mention that. My secondary alt is a varanus prasinus, an Emerald Tree Monitor.

P.S. It's a wig. She doesn't actually have hair. She's been designed as a "theoretical evolution" character.

Can't say I'm a fan of them.

Except CyBug viruses. Those things are bloody cute! Especially as babies.

I think Wreck-It Ralph was the first time I ever walked out of a movie saying I wanted a plushie... and it was for a CyBug. I rolled around on FA and dA a while looking for one, but to no avail.

Well, it seems this thread has moved from arguing labels to posting reptiles.

This is in serious discussion because...?

Well, to be fair, it was in serious discussion /because/ of the argument on labels.
At the moment though, it seems more suited for the general discussion section.

Perhaps somebody could spice it up with a good rhetorical?

Well, mainly because of people that ask this exact type of questions.

- - Auto Merge - -

How come furries are so frowned upon in our society, and how does that relate to bronies? if it can relate at all. what would be the main difference between the two subcultures?

The main difference is that Furries enjoy whatever furry stuff they like. (I dunno what.)
And that Bronies enjoy stuff relating to My Little Pony.
They are two different things, and are both frowned upon.

That necessarily isn't much of a response actually.-. doesn't really explain much at least.

Well, not all Bronies want to be classified as Furries, and not all Furries want to be classified as Bronies. So why are all Bronies classified as Furries, but all Furries classified aren't classified as Bronies?

(...Or whatever you got from that. I don't really even.)

If I had to take an educated guess at the negative views on furries in society, I'd look at the media.

Shows like FOX news and Family guy purposely portray the fandom in a negative atmosphere in a way that labels them as odd or weird, I'm sure all of you have seen the broadcasts they've done on bronies in which they do the same.

The difference here being that this has been going on for much longer and has been generally more subtle due to the time it's been going on. There really isn't for the most part, a positive voice for furries in pop culture, while bronies are hailed for being the underdogs of the cartoon world in places such as Hot Topic and FYE.

This negative portrayal, obviously, leads to the poor mental image people associate with furries, and as such, gives them a terrible name.

Not all of us wear fursuits.
Not all of us are otherkin.
And those of us who do aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

One thing I'd like to ask, if I may...

If I like anthromorphic robots, does that make me a furry?
Because robots are freaking awesome!!!
