That's one cool preacher. That goes to show that not all religious people are ignorant rabble-rousers.
Well see, I'm only attracted to certain men though, not all men... I guess that's true for my feelings toward women too, but it seems like that's a larger pool for me or something. I don't know...
So after some thinking, I've decided that I'm a curious hybrid between pansexual and straight. It's basically a question of "does (s)he have boobs?".
With being raised in a family full of Christians, I can't really decipher if it is wrong or not. But every time my family says it's wrong to the sake of shame, I always tell them the same thing; "Guys, it's their problem, not yours. It's not your place to judge." According to our religion,"He who is without sin casts the first stone", which this is a prime example of that. Just because you were saved, or you worship God does not make you the better person. Not once in the Bible has it ever said to discriminate them. Enough about religion, all i'm trying to say is that although I have mixed feelings about homosexuality, I support it although it may be wrong. I mean, would I really want to strip away the happiness from somebody just because they love the same gender? It's just...it's just a horrible thing to do. I'll be honest here, what shames me more than anything are those supporters who call non-supporters out...calling them stupid and whatnot. Look people, not every one of us think the same or have the same views. Calling them out with names and irrationality is no different than them calling you out for supporting gays...it's just as prejudice.
I agree entirely. People will have their own opinions about certain subjects, and if they don't agree with the way you are, that's fine. It's not like their opinion should affect you.
Leviticus 18:22- Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. It's easy to remember that one, but even easier to forget this one... Matthew 7:1- Judge not, that ye be not judged. Being a Christian, I struggle with this concept but I try my best not to cast stones. I have a sister that is a lesbian and, although I do not understand her lifestyle, who am I to judge her?
Okay, this isn't very new news, but Scotland is following the rest of Britain in legalising Same-Sex marriage. The first Scottish gay marriages are thought to be taking place in December. It's later than was originally planned, but later's better than never- Good on 'em. The only country in the United Kingdom Still rejecting Same-sex marriage is Northern Ireland, who's assembly has blocked the marriage equality bill three times within 18 months. Apparently, before the vote, the Catholic hierarchy wrote a letter to all the assembly members, persuading them to vote against the bill. Grrrr8. Here's hoping Northern Ireland joins Britain soon. The right to Marriage is a pretty important right to have.
One of the key errors made by many Christians is that they focus on passages in the Old Testament, and forget about the New Testament. By definition, a Christian is a person who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. However, nowhere in Christ's teachings is homosexuality ever mentioned.
This is actually a horrid mistranslation, and has been for years on end now. Leviticus was all about property laws. It was twisted and warped to a bigoted mindset over time. It's essentially saying that you can't treat a man like a woman by taking his property and slaves, etc. Since women are just pretty much objects in Judeo-Christian literature, it's just saying that men can't be dominant over other men when it came to properties, slaves, and material posessions.
Leviticus also hates shell fish Leviticus 11:10 ESV But anything in the seas or the rivers that has not fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you.
The Bible also says that we're not supposed to eat pigs, and that we're not supposed to eat meat and dairy together. I refuse to believe that a loving God wouldn't want me to eat a bacon cheeseburger.
don't forget the part about not being allowed to wear a shirt made from more then one piece of cloth.
They're essentially saying that a child without both a mother AND a father is doomed? Well, normally I'd ask "What about single mothers and fathers?" but if these words reflect Catholic sentiments, then it'd stand to reason that they never took such parents into consideration in the first place. Because divorcees are worse than Satan! Really, that entire argument is ridiculous. I suppose they could point to the fact that single-parent youths have a much higher propensity for turning to crime in order to "support" their position, but that'd just be the ol' "correlation = causality" fallacy.
Leviticus has a whole mess of laws that practically no Christian follows. Many are grossly unethical by our standards, while others are just impractical. However, on the latter, I most note that it is much more impractical for a homosexual to try to pretend to be heterosexual than it is for somebody to not eat shellfish (I don't eat shellfish. lol)... Yet which of the two 'laws' do many Christians constantly harp on others to follow? *sigh* Quoting Leviticus to try to justify being against homosexuality is absurd. Why is it that it justifies being against homosexuality, but all of these other laws are "irrelevant"? It all speaks volumes for me.
