So anyone else here a fan of Comics &/or Manga? I myself have been addicted to this form of art, entertainment & story-telling since the wee young age of 7. So for 14 of the 21 years of my life I have been reading and loving comics books and manga. And unlike other interests its just grown as time goes by. Probably because as I get older TV entertains me less and i'm just not as much of a gamer as I used to be, lol. So yeah I thought I would start a little thread for people to come and disscuss/share their love for comics and manga. talk about things like -What are you currently reading? -what are your favorite series? -what are your least favorite series? -what writers do you like &/or dislike? -etc, etc and so on. So yea, let the fun begin! As for me I am currently reading (on top of my regular monthlies) Marvel's AVX (Avengers VS X-men) event, its pretty decent overall, kind of cliche, but still a really fun read. Also enjoying Kaboom!'S new Adventure Time comic book, it actually does a pretty good job of catching the spirit of the cartoon. Makes me wish they or somebody (like maybe Archie) would give a MLP: Friendship Is Magic comic a whack. And Speaking of Archie i've also been enjoying their Mega Man comic series that launched last April, its a pretty good adaption of the Classic Mega Man games. Not as well written or executed as Ariga's Mega Man Mix manga's but still a great adaption in its own right. As for favorite series. I have religiously read Archie's Sonic The Hedgehog comics since I was just 7 years old, and as mentioned am also loving their Mega Man book. For the big two (DC & Marvel) I'm a big fan of the Teen Titan's especially the 80's Perez/Wolfman series, and out of the new 52 line have really enjoyed All-Star Western and Red Lantern's More then I thought I would. As for marvel I would say currently my favorite titles are the Deadpool ongoing, its just silly fun, Loki's new (yet old) series Journey Into Mystery, as well as the Avengers & X-men family of books. I also enjoy pretty much anything with Ghost Rider, Howard The Duck & Man-Thing. OH and love Runaways, wish there wasn't such a long wait between series. And finally love pretty much anything by Jhonen Vasquez. As for Manga. Love Bleach & Case Closed. Also a fan of Black Lagoon, as well as the works of Urwazawa & Tezuka.
I like DC comics, particularly the ones with fantasy elements. My favorite characters are the Phantom Stranger and Green Lantern Alan Scott. I also like the team series, like Justice League. It's fun to see so many different characters interact. I've read a few Marvel comics and they were good, but I grew up watching Superfriends so DC is what I usually read. That reminds me of the Superman & Bugs Bunny crossover. It was a fun read, and they used a lot of obscure characters from the Looney Tunes series. I wonder how a DC or Marvel crossover with MLP:FiM would turn out.
I'm not sure that would work, lol. But it is an inetersing Idea none the less. for DC we could do a Batman/Twilight Team-up and for Marvel a Deadpool/Pinkie Pie Team-up, rofl. But yeah on a more serious note I do think it would be nice if Hasbro eventually let someone do a MLP:FIM comic book series.
OMG more lantern fans. I love the Green lantern comics, I'm more of a fan of DC. I love the emotional spectrum, if it wasn't for it and Rainbow Dash, I might not be a brony.
Yeah i've just gotten in GL recently honestly, plan to pick up the NEW 52 trades of the various GL series, even double dip for Red Lanterns which I am reading monthly.
I've never been very into Western comics beyond some of the more famous graphics novels of the last thirty years (you know: "Watchmen," "V for Vendetta," "Batman: Year One," a tiny bit of "Sandman," etc.) I never followed the Sonic comics too closely, but I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Sat A.M. cartoon they were based on. The dark cyberpunk atmosphere and the unique characters really won me over. Plus, when I was little, I'll admit I nursed a tiny crush on Bunnie Rabbot. I really would like to get into The Walking Dead comic. How is it? As for manga, I have a few favorites. Primarily, I LOVE Rumiko Takahashi's Maison Ikkoku. It is miles better than anything else she has ever done, and that includes the anime adaptation that was based on the manga. Unlike the rest of her series, it has a structured plot (it is only 14 volumes long in GN form), a mature romantic storyline (none of this perpetual arguing nonsense you see in Ranma, Urusei Yatsura, Inu-Yasha, etc.), and some of the funniest humor I've ever encountered in a manga. I had a hard time with the series at first because it is one of her earliest works and the art in the beginning is kind of rough, but that quickly improves in quality and becomes quite lovely by around volume 5. Also, Love Hina is a TOTAL rip-off of Maison Ikkoku, so if you read it and the story seems vaguely familiar, it is because many of the tropes found in shounen romance started out in MI (although the series is considerably more mature than anything found in Love Hina). It is a perfect romantic comedy and a compelling coming-of-age story. I've heard good things about her Mermaid Saga, but I have yet to read it. Angel Sanctuary is awesome if you can get past all the homosexuality and incest. The art is absolutely astonishing and the story is touching and epic. Another series I love is FAKE. It's like a gay version of Lethal Weapon. There's very little sexual content in it (only one semi-graphic sex scene in the last volume, and some kissing before that), but the characters are all very well-developed and the plots are gritty and engaging. I don't care for shounen-ai or yaoi and I absolutely love this series. The plot of Miyazaki's Nausicaa manga is excellent, although I have a hard time getting past the art. If the art doesn't bother you, then go for it. If you like the Magical Girl genre at all, a company has recently re-released the Sailor Moon manga in America UNCUT. So no censorship or changing of names. What don't I like? I don't care for most of the endless shounen manga I've read (although I will admit to liking Naruto, and the Rurouni Kenshin manga is fantastic). Don't like most of Yuu Watase's work. Ceres, Celestial Legend is kind of boring and I could never get into Fushigi Yugi.
Has anyoen else found Empowered yet? It's pretty good and appeals to fans of both anime and american comics.
So anybody else interested in DC's Gem World Reboot "Sword Of Sorcery" coming out this september? http://media.dcentertainment.com/sites/default/files/comic-covers/2012/06/SWSOR_Cv0_PREVIEWS.jpg

Currently reading Watchmen. Not the first time, but I love this too much. My favourite character is Rorschach. Everything about him, from his mere appearance to the way he talks, is awesome.
