Kleft's face went neutral as his broken emotions kicked in. "Ah, I gave up on a family long ago." He said. "I never had the time to find a special somepony before the Infinity Gate began causing issues. When I got back, I joined the Lunar Island guard force. One of the laws of being a Lunar Island guard is that you give up having a wife or kids. Heck, you give up on all, family really...not that I had any to begin with." Kleft chuckled. "Ah, even if I were to leave the guards at this very moment I would still be childless, I'm too old to have a family! The guard life is okay, though. The lodging is better than my old house, and I meet a lot of ponies more like myself." Frowning, he said "Of course, none of them have broken the Fye. That hasn't happened since...well, a long time ago."
Snow nodded, there was need to ask what the Fye was, she already knew through long hours of studying the Lunar Island. Snow looked around once more and saw a balck pegasus with a red mane wearing a formal Royal Guard uniform making her way through the crowd, "Hey! Dark made it!" Snow exclaimed. Dark looked up and noticed Snow, she spread her wings and flew above the crowd to more easily get to them, "Hello Snow, Kleft, Retalius." She said greeting the three, of course Retalius saluted Dark as she was the higher rank, "Calm down Retalius!" Dark said laughing, "We're at a party, not some military meeting!" Retalius put his hoof down looking slightly embarrised. "So, how have you been doing Kleft?" Dark asked.
"Pretty swell, actually. Lunar Island has definitely seen better days, but it will all blow over soon. This is a nice getaway from guard duty. No more tourists asking where everything is." He took a quick glance around the room. "Even if somepony asked me in here, I wouldn't be able to help them. This place is bigger than our great hall!" Picking up a nearby cup, he filled it with punch and took a long swig from the cup. Sighing, he lowered the cup from his face and said "I see you have become an aspiring figure in the military. I feel congratulations are in place?"
Dark nodded, "Thanks Kleft, tell you what, soemthing's going on to get our military riled up that those still higher up from me are hiding. Increased patrols, more guards, more infantry, more navy, more everything! Something's going on, and I don't know what. I've spent the last month trying to orginize all the new troops under my command, and the Capital region ain't small, nor has there been any shortage of the new guys. Hell, in the last week alone, I had to spread a thousand new soldiers among Ponyville, Canterlot, Cloudsdale, Fillydelphia, the works."
Kleft frowned. "I'm sorry to hear that. We haven't been having anything like that on Lunar Island lately. The most recent problem we've had was with an earth pony named Mixer who snuck into the mess hall to steal candy. Fool didn't realize we actually take security seriously on the island." He took a frightened look at Dark as he realized what he had just said. "Um, that is, I mean- You must know, Lunar Island's security is much higher than Equestria's. Eh...I said that wrong. Anyways, it's good to see you're at least doing your job." He took a glance behind him and spotted Winter Warmth being bored. "Also, I thought you might want to know, but Winter Warmth and I have made up. Next time we cross paths, I promise not to rip his throat out."
"Oh even if you tried I doubt you could have, Winter's told me what happened when he first saw you." Snow said jokingly, "Now come on, we have a party to enjoy!"
