The next night, she was in the fort at the normal time, leaning back against the window. * * * "Yes. Well... we don't like to let good deeds go unpunished, and so we would like to give you a mouse." He looked down at Caly. "If you want him, anyway."
Osiris climbed up, looking over. "Hey." *** Her eyes widened and she looking between him and Caly. "..Really?"
He grinned, standing up. "Get here okay?" *** She looked surprised, reaching out to touch his arm almost as if reassuring him as well as herself. "Of course I do! I'm just surprised you trust me.."
She scoffed, scooting over to give him a place to sit. "Of course." * * * He pulled away instinctively, eyeing her warily. "You did a good thing," he said after a moment. "It should be rewarded."
He went over and sat down, squinting. "Just making sure." *** She looked nervous, pulling her hands back and crossing her arms. "Well.. That's scary. That's a whole living thing. I don't want to mess up."
She leaned up against him, lying her head back against the window. "How was your day?" * * * He laughed slightly, raising one eyebrow. "It sounds like you don't want him."
He sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. "Kind of long, but it was alright." *** She frowned, shaking her head. "No, I do. I care for him," she said, looking up at Victor. "What if I mess up? I don't want to mess up."
"Why was it long?" she asked, looking over at him curiously. * * * "You can't mess up," he said, tilitng his head. "Caly's a rogue mouse. They're pretty hard to mess up."
He shrugged. "Just a lot of work to do." *** She looked nervous, but watched Caly before nodding slowly. "Okay."
She pursed her lips worriedly. "I'm sorry." * * * Victor held the mouse out to her, who wiggled in his hands, squeaking nervously.
He waved off her concern. "You don't have to be! I'm okay." *** She took Caly, looking down at the little mouse and stroking his fur. She faced Victor again, looking genuinely appreciative. "Thank you."
She huffed, leaning over and resting her head on his shoulder again. "Sometimes I think we should just leave, you know? Get away from the tribes." * * * "Thank you," he replied. "We're even now, yes?"
He raised an eyebrow, looking down at her. "Where would we go?" *** She grinned. "Is that what this is about? Getting even? Yes, I suppose we are."
Her eyes were closed, but she laughed slightly. "I don't even know. I'm mostly joking, anyway." * * * He inclined his head for a moment before looking over his shoulder. "Good. Well, I'm actually not supposed to be in here, so I should probably leave."
She opened her eyes and looked up at him, noticing his frown. "What?" * * * "It's a small world," he replied with a small grin. "Take good care of him. He likes peas."
She frowned, watching him for a moment before standing up. "Why don't we go, then? Tonight?" * * * He gave her a little nod and scratched Caly's head before turning to leave.
