He was standing there, and he looked up hopefully. "Hi." * * * She was tangled up with him, her arms and legs around him.
"It was great," she said warmly, stepping aside. "How were your errands?" *** He shifted, turning away from her with a yawn.
"Eh. Frustrating. It's fine, though. Let's check on your injury." * * * She sat up, looking down at him thoughtfully.
She went over to the bed, sitting on the edge of it. *** His face was relaxed in his sleep, his orange hair ruffled and soft in sleep. She would notice the gentle freckles that dotted his face, and the surprisingly dark eyelashes he had. He didn't look worried or concerned. Just peaceful.
He joined her, kneeling next to her. "May I?" * * * Her face softened and she laid back down next to him, her hand on his chest. "Hey," she whispered, her voice quiet. "I love you."
He gently moved up the base of her shirt, checking out the injury. * * * She shook her head, smiling gently at him and ruffling his hair. "Nothing. What happened last night?"
She stayed still, waiting for him to be done. "Does it look okay?" *** He blinked, sitting up. "Well.. You got drunk and we made a cake."
"It's healing well," he said, looking up at her. "Well done." * * * She laughed, looking up at him affectionately. "I did?"
She smiled at him. Thank you for helping," she paused, "and for the flowers." *** He laughed slightly, looking over at the kitchen. "You did."
"Oh, you liked those?" he teased, sitting up. "I thought they'd look nice in here." * * * "Hm," she mused. "Do we have any left? I'm, like... really hungry."
"They do," she said, gesturing to the window, where they neatly sat in a vase. "See?" *** He nodded. "Yeah. We didn't eat any."
“They look nice,” he commented. *** She stood up and went over to the kitchen, pausing before grabbing the cake in the tin and bringing it back to the bed.
He raised an eyebrow in interest. "Did you, now?" * * * "Right?" she asked, settling the tin between them and lying back in the pillows.
"I'm glad," he said slowly. "I missed you too." * * * She gave him a piece of the cake and settled back against the pillows, munching on her own slice quietly.
