"We need bodies," he said roughly. "They're going to order an entire evacuation of the area. We need people to help."
"You don't have to," Victor replied smoothly. "We just... we need volunteers." He paused, noticing a sleeping Dahlia on the bed. "Is she alright?"
Victor sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yes, well... perhaps we should wake her? We could use everyone that we can get."
Victor laughed lowly. "Alright. Meet down by the river bank whenever you're ready to be put to work. I'll see you soon."
He looked outside. "Yeah. They're afraid of the flooding. They need volunteers to help people evacuate, so I'm going to help. We should gather up supplies.'
"They need volunteers?" she said worriedly, sitting up. "What... can I volunteer? That's dangerous, isn't it? I can help."
He hesitated, but nodded. "Yeah, I guess.. But let's just gather things to evacuate. We could probably stay in the attic in our old fort."
He would hear her shuffling around, gathering up sheets and things before breaking out into a coughing fit. The fever had mostly left, although she was still weak from the illness. She was getting stronger every day, but was taking a lot of naps.
