She padded over to the kitchen, yawning sleepily as she began to cook up some food. *** He was frowning, looking down at the ground. “One day. I won’t go in for one day.”
She was cooking over the stove, but looked over at him when she heard him. "Morning, Cy." * * * "But I still need to go tell them that I can't work. There's still a lot that needs to be done."
"Eggs," she said cheerfully. "Victor brought me a quail egg the other day, and I haven't gotten around to using it." * * * He looked over at her, brushing her hair back gently. "I'm sorry to be such a burden."
He brightened, stretching his arms. "I don't think I've had eggs before." *** She leaned into his touch, her brows furrowing slightly. "You're not a burden, Victor."
"They're supposed to be good. I saw the humans make them, but... well... they're so big. Quail egg is pretty big too, but it's a lot of servings." * * * He laughed sheepishly. "A little bit of a burden right now."
He nodded slowly. "I'm excited to try it." *** She tilted her head. "Was I a burden when I got attacked by the cat?"
She looked over at him before continuing to cook. "How'd you sleep?" * * * "No," he said immediately. "But that's different."
He got up, coming over to her and kissing her cheek. "Good. How about you?" *** She raised her eyebrows at him. "How?"
"Alright," she said, looking over at him. "You fell asleep pretty quickly." * * * "Because you're cute," he replied smoothly.
He laughed slightly. "Sorry, I was pretty tired." *** She rolled her eyes with a grin. "So? You are too."
"You don't need to apologize," she said easily. "You were hugging me. It was nice." * * * "Not right now," he replied lamely. "I have bruises and a huge cut."
He laughed slightly. "I was hugging you?" *** She kissed his cheek warmly. "You're always cute to me."
"It's great," she said easily, looking over at him. "I love being held by you." * * * He watched her, sitting up on his arms. "Can I help?"
She was cooking the eggs, stirring them in the pan, but rested her head on his shoulder. "I wonder if our home is underwater," she said after a moment. * ** "Look at me! I'm rearing to go!"
