“Siris, go back to sleep,” she protested, ruffling his hair. *** “And you still didn’t know to be wary of owls?”
She squinted at him, leaning against the glass of the window. "I'm literally just leaving. You can stay sleeping." * * * He stared at her for a moment, a small smirk crossing his lips. "You're not stupid, and yet you weren't afraid of the owls? Do you know what stupid means? How about reckless?"
She snorted, laughing quietly as she walked by him, pulling open the cloth that covered the exit. "Bye, 'Siris," she whispered, leaving their fort behind. * * * He raised an eyebrow. "Am I wrong?"
He waved her off, shutting his eyes. *** She huffed, folding her arms. "I am generally a careful person."
A couple of days later, Dahlia hadn’t returned to him. This was highly unusual. *** He laughed slightly, going over to the fire once more. “That sounds like something someone would say if they had read about owls in a book.”
Their fort remained untouched at the top of the windowsill. *** “Let’s just way you lack the ‘practical experience’.”
He looked up at it for awhile, before getting up, starting down below. *** She crossed her arms. "At least im educated."
Dahlia sat on her regular perch, an old, emptied out tea candle container on the crown mold of the room. She was glowering into empty space, her hands folded between her legs and her eyes jaded. * * * "Education is great," he amended, "but all the education in the world won't save you from an owl."
Osiris wasn't quite sure where to go. He never went down below often. He looked around, a frown on his face. *** She huffed. "I guess."
Movement caught Dahlia's eye and she sat up, looking interested before her whole face lit up as she saw him. She Shimmied down a long twine rope, getting on the same level before running over to him. "'Siris!" * * * He smirked before gesturing to the bed. "Sleep, Nascha. You can go home in the morning."
He looked up at her, his head tilting. "Dahlia. Where have you been?" *** She nodded, getting up and going to the bed. "Very well."
She ran almost into him, enveloping him in a big hug. "I missed you!" she said, pulling away, her eyes bright. "What are you doing here?" * * * He rolled his neck before sitting in front of the fire, the flames illuminating his silhouette.
