So I know that there are a few fans of the Pokemon series on the site, so I thought that it might as well have it's own dedicated thread. I put it in the Games section because we'll most like be talking about the games, not the Anime (although that can be discussed here as well). So I'll start off with some general questions and my answers in brackets: - Favourite Game/Generation (Gen 1) - Favourite Pokemon (Rayquaza) - Favourite Music from the game (Lance/Red battle music) - Things you want to see in later generations (Remakes of Ruby/Sapphire) Although feel free to discuss Absol-utely anything (I'm such a comedian)
- Favourite Game/Generation (Gen 1) - Favourite Pokemon (Raichu) - Favourite Music from the game (Pallet Town Theme) - Things you want to see in later generations (A full 3D remake of yellow version) Raichu is best pokemon.
Catch another one. It wouldn't follow you though. Anyone ever did a nuzlocke run? I never have, I really want to.
I'm doing a Nuzlocke run now actually on Sapphire. I'm currently training for the Elite 4. I also may do a Christian play through: That looks like fun.
Although the whole "raising an egg until it's level 18" seems like a bit of an annoyance, I usually just shove the egg in my PC box as soon as I get it. I do not have the need for a Wynaut or Togepi.
- Favourite Game/Generation (Gen 3) - Favourite Pokemon (Swampert/ Charmander) - Favourite Music from the game ( Gen 3 Elite four music was fantastic. Spoiler: ... Also, I like the rival music from gold and silver Spoiler: ... ) - Things you want to see in later generations (Remakes of Ruby/Sapphire) The Christian thing sounds easy enough, apart from the evolution ban.
Most of the music from any Pokemon game is awesome (haven't played the most recent one's so I can't really comment there). I especially like the music from HG/SS because they took the original awesome music and added more modern stuff (drums n stuff) to it and improved it. Spoiler: Trainer Red Music The originals were awesome but they did a great job remixing them. NIntendo has the best music.
I prefer the older games and to be honest, I probably always will. But I can't deny that Nintendo did a brilliant job remaking that game. They managed to keep the essence of the old game as well as adding loads of new features as well.
I also prefer the older generations. G4 and G5 Pokémon just look like uninspired random crap. (especially G5) Game Freak is getting lazy simply because they know they'll get money for it no matter how little effort they put in it. Also, what's the point in putting so many useless "legendary" pokemon in that game? More than half of them don't serve any purpose.
I quite liked it when there were only a few legendary pokemon. Gen 3 had just the right amount. When there were a few legendary pokemon, it was an acheivement to actually have them. They were also extremely hard to catch, whilst the newer ones seem easier as well (for some reason). Then again, the games were generally harder in the early days. I had to tell my 16 year-old friend how to get the squirt bottle and how to wake Snorlax in Pokemon Silver. The newer games are so much easier compared to the older games. Although saying all this, I can't really comment on generation 5 as I've never played it. Then again, I haven't paid for a Pokemon game since Leaf Green (i am such a pirate).
- Favourite Game/Generation (SoulSilver remake or Ruby) - Favourite Pokemon (Blaziken ftw) - Favourite Music from the game (Go Rock Quads theme) - Things you want to see in later generations (Remakes of Ruby/Sapphire) I agree with you there
I don't have a favorite gen. I'm split between Gen 1 and Gen 4. My favorite pokemon is Dragonite. I think my favorite Pokemon music is either against Gary for the final time or Cynthia's theme before and during the battle. To be honest, the Christian run doesn't look to be that hard. 1. Most likely the hardest part, but it should not be too much of a problem. 2. Annoying, but that not hard to play around. 3. I don't bread until after the game is done, so this rule will have no effect on me. 4. Grind until it's level 18, and then put it in the PC. No problem there. 5. No problem as I don't catch them until after I'm done the game. 6. I don't usually use fossil Pokemon, so I'm fine there. 7. Won't have a problem with this one, because I don't usually use PP and/or rare candy. I also won't have a problem with the game corner. 8. I don't usually catch them anyway, so I shouldn't have any problems. 9. Well, it won't happen, so I don't have a problem there. So, yeah, only rule 1 and 2 will be a problem, and even then it isn't that hard to deal with. I don't know what I want to see in future games.
That's pretty much what I think about it, although most teams do rely on the move "bite" in the earlier stages of the game. Although I think the whole idea of it was to mock Christianity. I feel that it actually sets some interesting rules. One playthrough I'll never do is this one: - No Bike - No Fly - Text speed set to slow I'd rather eat my own foot than do that.
It's mainly the rivals you get in these games that decide it for me. Blue: He's an arrogant ******* who you get to knock some sense into every once in a while. You take pleasure in owning him each time. Silver: He's also an arrogant *******, who thinks Pokémon should only be strong, and you're the one who eventually teaches him about love and care. You know? An actual attempt at character development! Actually, i like this one the most because of the Brony approach. Gold was a brony before it was cool! Now it starts going downhill. Every other rival in later games are just a bunch of morons you have friendly matches with... you already do that every 5 minutes in this game. Beating them makes no difference. They're also WAY too easy to beat.
I was going to bring this up at some point as well. Blue was awesome. He always appeared when you didn't want to battle him. Especially at the end of the Pokemon League. You go all out against Lance just to be told that you were beaten to the top spot by Blue, AGAIN. He is also the only person in the universe to say "Smell ya later" with sounding like an idiot. Then you get to the 2nd gen. You'd think that you couldn't get more awesome than Blue, but it turns out he's a total badass. He steals practically all his Pokemon and his character develops. In Gen 3, however, the rivals weren't great. He/She didn't even get their starter to the final evolution. Then you also have Wally, who just sucks. He even admits that you're better then him. What kind of rival does that? Gen 4 carried on in the same direction as Gen 3. Your rival was actually your friend, which take a lot of the competition out of it. Blue will always be the best rival. Even in the anime he's a jerk. He's 10 years old and he drives a car filled with cheerleaders. How cool is that?
I dislike how they evolved Gary's character in the anime. He litteraly stopped being a Pokémon trainer, admitted Ash had more potential, and started helping Oak as a lab assistant. I mean, this is the guy who got 10 out of 8 badges in his first year of training! How can they possibly make him fall like that?
Who wants a spine tingle? Here; We all remember this. Beating the game, winning the elite four, JUST. Then finding this... and.. god the MUSIC.
