I personally think that this game is perfect in almost every way. However, after finishing it again after all these years since it first came out, i finally found out what bothers me about this entire story. Just because of the game designers' flawed decision to allow the player to name the main character, they refrained from actually mentioning his name throughout the entire game. No one ever calls Tidus by name, he never introduced himself to anyone. So to get things straight, for the sake of a very minor gameplay choice, they basically crippled the entire story.
It wasn't even a necessary sacrifice; some games allow the player to name their character while side characters address the player character by his/her last name or some other identifying title.
Well for Tidus, it was always "him" or "you". XD Besides, being able to name the main character is sort of redundant considering you can't name any of the other characters yourself (like in all the previous FF games).
Hmmm, I see your point. Myabe they were trying to transition from the old formula and it didn't work.
Worst part is you never even found out how his name was pronounced until they mentioned it in Kingdom Hearts.
Well, to be fair, the japanese version of FFX is far better because the english dialogue had to be adjusted to the lip movements. The entire english dub suffered a little because of that. And btw, Japanese Tidus laughing sounds a little too much like Gilbert Gottfried for my taste... Not having played FF10, I can't fairly say whether it's good, but I hate it for starting the faux-realistic graphics FF has used consistently since then.
FFX is still a great game despite some of the major classic FF gameplay elements being removed from it. Final Fantasy really did start going downhill after that though. I actually hated FFX-2, but maybe that's because the game is really force-feeding you the whole "girl power!" thing. That, and FFX had an ending that didn't have to be messed with. Things went to **** after Square merged with Enix, imo.
FFX is better then FF7. I hated 7. X has always been my favorite of the final fantasy games. There is no comparison really. Plus, it had Yuna and Rikku. Al bhed are so great. The whole game was great. I wanna play it again now. I like the sphere grid. I always had a great time with that. And the Aeons and legendary weapons.
