So, on Saturday, I decided to dig out my Snes n' play some of my Childhood favourites. Oh, it was wonderful. Well, I've decided to expand my Cartridge collection, so I'm trying to think of good games to buy on Ebay. I was just wondering, what would you guys recommend I buy? I've got some of the classics, like Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Starwing, etc. Despite it being my second favourite Zelda game, I don't actually own Link to the past though and am concidering bidding for it. Anyway, what games do you think I should try? I'll start off with a lil' recommendation for y'all- Try Pop'n Twinbee. It's one of those fantastic games that weren't quite as popular as it ought to have been.
Aww man, Megaman X and F-Zero were such good games! I'm looking into buying Killer Instinct and Super Bomberman. So, Might as well throw them on the pile. The words "AWESOME COMBO" are echoing in my head.
Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III & V, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, New Horizons, Secret of Evermore, & Shin Megami Tensei. Hmm, some of those might be in Japanese only, but I suppose that's what emulators are for.
Here's one for the pile- Hyperzone. Spoiler: Gameplay Y'know, there wasn't enough "3D" rail shooters like this on Snes. I found the majority of games from this genre to be pretty great. Anyway, I'm bored and feel like writing stuff, so here's a little wall of text typed in the early hours of a Sunday Morning. Basically, the point in this game is to go through some whacky-theme'd levels, shooting enemies and objects and racking up points as you go. Each level places you on a track, shown on the floor and ceiling. In-between these two tracks, you can fly as you please, but leave the tracks and you'll have your power drained, and will slow down. You can refill power by going through recharge-zones, but if your power hits zero, you dead. At the end of each level's a boss, as with most shoot 'em ups, although these bosses are pretty easy. If you rack up enough points you get an upgrade to your ship to make life easier, with more power and faster weapon-charging speeds. Also, the later ships look really awesome. The graphics are nice and, to me, seem to have aged rather well. The music's pretty great (Here's a taster of the music, by the by), and it's really very fun, despite the very simple gameplay. The only bone I really have to pick with this is the generic, easy bosses. Nonetheless, it's probably, at the moment, one of my favourite rail shooters on the Snes, and I'd definitely recommend it. Sod's law then that it doesn't seem to have been released on this side of the pond. Looks like I'm never moving off the Emulator for this one.
Have you ever played Final Fantasy IV? Screw everyone who thinks 6 or 7 is best, IV has such a simple story about saving the world from evil (oh yes, it's that simple) but it's so impacting in how simple it is. Everything feels stacked against you, your characters define rag-tag and all have motivation to keep on fighting, the vlllains taunts you, it's just such an amazing experiences and it's my favorite RPG of all time. Have you played Earthworm Jim? If you like platformers, you need to play this one.
Great games but NO. The SNES controller is horrible for fighters. Now the Genesis six-button controller on the other hand-
'Bin playing Earthworm Jim- Didn't expect it to be so good! (PS: I used to be quite into Final Fantasy. It's been too long since I last played a Final Fantasy game, though...) Now. R-Type III's a pretty awesome Shoot-em-up. It starts off pretty easy, but by the Third level, you'll find things get pretty difficult. You basically go through the levels, racing through space while blasting robots, dodging through narrow caves and tunnels dripping with acid, etc. You get a "Force", a satellite sorta thing you can attach to the front of your ship, to make for a more powerful weapon and to act as a shield against enemy attacks. You can also attach it to your arse, to protect your back from unexpected attack. Later in the game, you can also gain shields for the top and bottom of your ship, very useful in the acidic caves. Well, in a nutshell, this game's pretty great. The graphics are awesome, especially in the first level, with all those pipes whizzing around, and that smooth intro animation of you zooming into battle. It looks fantastic. The music and sound's pretty fab too. The game gets pretty difficult when you get into it, should be challenging for any gamer. It's got quite a few tense boss battles too. Shoot-Em-Up fans, if you haven't played this yet, this is one of those games you Need to play. Edit; have some gameplay. Spoiler: G-G-G-Gameplay
Ahhh. The SNES. So many memories with this console. You singlehandedly made me who I am today. Anyways, here's what I recommend~ -All three Donkey Kong Country games -Mario All Stars -Kirby Super Star -Super Metroid -Mega Man X -Chrono Trigger -More that I can't recall due to years of not playing the SNES...
Never took to Mario Kart. To me, it seemed quite dull, and slow. There're some fantastic racing games on Snes, but I just don't understand why people consider Mario kart to be one of them. *Is shot* I agree with pretty much all the other games there though. DK country's awesomeee. xD I really need to try Chrono Trigger. Anywho. Here's a platformer for ya. Spoiler: Gameplay It's called Sparkster. You play as this pretty awesome Opossum bloke. A lot of the game involves you climbing and hanging from rails, branches, that sort of thing. Your weapons include a Jetpack with which you can charge into enemies and gain access to higher ledges, and a sword which can send waves of energy when used, damaging foes near and far. Well. The game's pretty fun, seeing you climbing up rails in factories, slicing through wolf armies, and charging into gigantic robots, blade in hand. It's a pretty easy game, but it's still great fun. On top of that, the main character's pretty dang cute. Aww... Anyway, the graphics are nice, the music's catchy, and the games worth a go. Try it!
I've been getting into the Actraiser games lately. They're pretty fun, though the original is a little repetitive... Don't shoot me for saying this... The second one's the best. Though they removed the City building element, which was a major turn-off for most fans, I felt the combat was much more solid in Actraiser 2. *Runs for cover*
