In the valley of Nis the accursed waning moon shines thinly, tearing a path for its light with feeble horns through the lethal foliage of a great upas-tree. And within the depths of the valley, where the light reaches not, move forms not meant to be beheld. Rank is the herbage on each slope, where evil vines and creeping plants crawl amidst the stones of ruined palaces, twining tightly about broken columns and strange monoliths, and heaving up marble pavements laid by forgotten hands. And in trees that grow gigantic in crumbling courtyards leap little apes, while in and out of deep treasure-vaults writhe poison serpents and scaly things without a name. Vast are the stones which sleep beneath coverlets of dank moss, and mighty were the walls from which they fell. For all time did their builders erect them, and in sooth they yet serve nobly, for beneath them the grey toad makes his habitation. At the very bottom of the valley lies the river Than, whose waters are slimy and filled with weeds. From hidden springs it rises, and to subterranean grottoes it flows, so that the Daemon of the Valley knows not why its waters are red, nor whither they are bound. The Genie that haunts the moonbeams spake to the Daemon of the Valley, saying, "I am old, and forget much. Tell me the deeds and aspect and name of them who built these things of Stone." And the Daemon replied, "I am Memory, and am wise in lore of the past, but I too am old. These beings were like the waters of the river Than, not to be understood. Their deeds I recall not, for they were but of the moment. Their aspect I recall dimly, it was like to that of the little apes in the trees. Their name I recall clearly, for it rhymed with that of the river. These beings of yesterday were called Man." So the Genie flew back to the thin horned moon, and the Daemon looked intently at a little ape in a tree that grew in a crumbling courtyard. -Lovecraft "Memory"
"[...] He had not had pleasant experiences where love was concerned. It could break your heart, if you weren't careful. It could make you feel so lost, so confused, and so worthless that life didn't seem worth living. This wasn't something he knew from books; these were the bitter lessons of his life. [...] Though it was many years since she had hurt him, he still wore on his heart the scars she had left there." -Clive Barker's Abarat
Fly away you fool, you should fly away To the hill, to the moon, to the sky Fly fast, don't fail, just try We did wrong, much too wrong, should have seen it all along Time to flee while you can, time to understand We spoiled our chance completely Euzen - The Great Escape
This sounds like my type of thread. "Some Of Those That Work Forces, Are The Same That Burn Crosses" "Those That Died, Are Justified, Remember The Badge, You Are The Chosen White" "BUCK YOU! I won't do what you tell me!" All from "Killing In The Name" by Rage Against The Machine, I explained before in the "NRA & KKK Comparisons" thread, my reason for always using this song as my first one. I've never heard that song before but it sounds freakishly familiar. The morrow winds blow and herald a time When man will be damned for all his crime We all were too bold, now we all can see How the life-giver's bleeding to death before me I am packing my bags, I'm waiting in line This tragedy forces us away from this land As I board this creature of steel, I kiss her goodbye, give her time to heal... --Seventh Wonder, The Great Escape (Part III: Leaving Home)
I've seen the moon And the first sunrise I'll leave it to the memories And kiss the wind goodbye For the Eldar I'm trapped inside this dream Of the Eldar's Song of doom I've tasted poison When I drank the wine of fate But the fear was in my heart I realized too late The house of spirits call For the Eldar I'm trapped inside this dream Of the Eldar's Song of the doom High's the fee Soon my spirit will return Welcome dawn Your light will take me home I say farewell To the Eldar I'm trapped inside this dream Of the Eldar's Song of doom
>:L "The Eldar" is Elven king Finrod Felagund's farewell to his people, dying from wounds sustained by saving his human friend Beren from a werewolf, thereby fulfilling his oath to the House of Bëor. I quite like this little classic: I used to have this girlfriend known as Elsie, with whom I shared four sordid rooms in Chelsea. She wasn't what you'd call a blushing flower. As a matter of fact, she rented by the hour. The day she died, the neighbours came to snicker: "Well that's what comes from too much pills and liquor." But when I saw her lay down like a queen, She was the happiest corpse I'd ever seen.
Quite a lot from my bag of feels, but I relate to virtually all of them. Spoiler: Beliefs, by We Came As Romans "What is this whispered thief? And find the point, in your life when you realize. That there’s something that you’ve lost. And something went terribly wrong. With your last breath, until your lungs collapse. The title of my fic, though the origin came from "My Sweet Shadow" -- Both songs go hand in hand, in a way. This one can have a much darker interpretation, however. Spoiler: High Hopes, by Pink Floyd There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before times took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay /////// Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times Nickelback gets a lot of flak, but they have some very powerful music before the Dark Horse album. Spoiler: Someday, by Nickelback How the hell'd we wind up like this? Why weren't we able To see the signs that we missed Try and turn the tables? I wish you'd unclench your fists And unpack your suitcase Lately there's been too much of this But don't think it's too late Nothing's wrong just as long as you know that someday I will... Someday, somehow I'm gonna make it alright but not right now I know you're wondering when (You're the only one who knows that) One of their best songs, like most of their older work. Spoiler: In The End, by Linkin Park Time is a valuable thing Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings Watch it count down to the end of the day The clock ticks life away. I like that one. That concept reminds me of Orphaned Land's Mabool. The Seventh had seven descendants The seventh was then divided into three They were given their first symbols They bore faces of animals A Snake, an Eagle and the Lion: The first was known as Magic and he bore an enchanted heart A Star of David upon his crest was his eternal mark The second was Strength, half a moon was he A triangle he adorned, a sword for all to see The third was the lion of Wisdom a mind unmatched and Represented by the cross the white was his essence A crystal his defense The three were one, divided at rebirth Forbidden to unite, for fear of their strength. --Orphaned Land, Birth of the Three (The Unification) Basically the album tells a story of the birth of the conflict between Judaism, Islam, and Christianity, and the angels' struggle to bring peace. It's one of those albums that gets me all feely inside... Highly recommended album. To everyone.
