No, lyrics thread. You are not allowed to die.

    I've been pretty obsessed with this song lately. It's another one of those hurricane-of-feels songs, and I feel this personal connection to it myself. It's like it's a song about that soul I used to have. ;_;

    I just see faces.
Faces staring blank as they go on with the routine.
    This routine.
Nothing new... its time to go through with this.

A spaceman. That’s what they say I am.
Nothing but a spaceman... always pushing it all away.
Trying to get to that one place I call home.

The journey begins... forcing a new life with the unexplained... a creeping rush that surrounds me.
    Floating... floating away.
Always pushing it all away. Trying to get to that one place I call home.

My own planet... I allowed this wish... unexpected... not knowing why.
    (I) Wonder why I question it now. I'm my own planet... not many can experience this sensation.
Loneliness is creeping out... or in, however you think of it.
But it sure is surrounding me. Maybe all the complaining is an accruance of boredom.

    I suppose it’s too late.

I am floating farther and farther away.
I did love, I did laugh, I did live.
    (Now I’m my own planet.)

A spaceman. They say I am... a spaceman.

    BTBAM's poetry is freaking great.

    WeltenBrand - Bewitched Herds Boys

Two boys tended cattle in the Triesner upper village
An old woman passed and greeted them but the boys just shouted
You old witch you and threw rocks after her
The woman turned around and yelled down to them
I will get you on your heels
And as if on command all the cows lifted their tails and raced towards the Rhein
The boys were forced to follow as if pulled by invisible ropes
and everything happend so fast that they tumbled many times
Dead tired and with lots of bruises they reached their cattle at the Rhein and wanted to drive them back but of no avail all the hitting was useless
The two fell asleep in the grass
When the bells in the morning played Ave Maria the cows walked back home
The farmer saw them coming and discovered the welts
He searched for the boys finally found them full of cuts and bruises and they told him what happened here...

For what is the meaning of life?
    If not... Suffering
I wonder what's the meaning of this weak existance
    If not... Sorrow
    ~Endless Solitude - Shining~

    Suicide
    Is that the way
Where we all will end up
    After the miserable loneliness
    These spended hours and days
    Reaching the exit of living

    Hopelessness
    Is what I feel
    Leading myself to failure
    Must escape this ****
    This futility of life
    It's time to end everything
    It's time to end everything...
    ~Life - Unjoy~

    When night falls
    She cloaks the world
    In impenetrable darkness
    A chill rises
    From the soil
    And contaminates the air
    Suddenly...
    Life has new meaning
    ~Dunkelheit - Burzum~

    Every now and then
    We find a special friend
    Who never lets us down
    Who understands it all
Reaches out each time you fall
You're the best friend that I've found

    I know you can't stay
A part of you will never ever go away
    Your heart will stay

I'll make a wish for you
And hope it will come true
That life would just be kind
    To such a gentle mind
    If you lose your way
    Think back on yesterday
    Remember me this way
    Remember me this way

I don't need eyes to see
The love you bring to me
    No matter where I go
And I know that you'll be there
Forever more a part of me, you're everywhere
    I'll always care

And I'll be right behind your shoulder watching you
I'll be standing by your side and all you do
    And I won't ever leave
    As long as you believe
    You just believe

I'll make a wish for you
And hope it will come true
That life would just be kind
    To such a gentle mind
    If you lose your way
    Think back on yesterday
    Remember me this way

We are dying in the wake of gods and decrees remain arcane
And everything around us is a consequence of pain

The writings on the wall depict a truth that no one reads
A government of puppets blinded by another creed

There's a ghost down in the hall
There's a ghoul upon the bed
    There's something in the walls
There's blood up on the stairs
And it's floating through the room
And there's nothing I can see
And I know that that's the truth
    Because now it's haunting me

    I don't understand it
    Hey
    I don't understand it!
    ...Aaow

There's a thumpin' in the floor
There's a creak behind the door
There's a rocking in the chair
    But there's no-one sitting there
    There's a ghostly smell around
    But nobody to be found
And a coughin' and a yawnin'
Where a restless soul is going

    Don't understand it!
    Hey
    Don't understand it!
    ...Ha-Hey!

And who gave you the right to shame my family?
And who gave you the right to shake my baby, she needs me
And who gave you the right to shame my family tree?
You put a knife in my back
    Shot an arrow in me!
Tell me are you the ghost of jealousy?
    The ghost of jealousy

There's a thumpin' in the floor
There's a creak behind the door
There's a rocking in the chair
    But nobody's sitting there
    There's a ghostly smell around
    But nobody to be found
And a coughin' and a yawnin'
Where a restless soul is going

    Don't understand it!
    Yeah Yeah!
    Don't understand it!
    You're just a dog gone!
    Aaow!

And who gave you the right to scare my family?
And who gave you the right to scare my baby, she needs me
And who gave you the right to shame my family tree?
And who gave you the right to take intrusion, to see me?
And who gave you the right to shame my family?
And who gave you the right to hurt my baby, she needs me
And who gave you the right to shame my family tree?
You put a knife in my back,
    Shot an arrow in me!
Tell me are you the ghost of jealousy
    A suckin' ghost of jealousy
    ...Aaow!

And who gave you the right to shame my family?
And who gave you the right to shake my baby, she needs me
And who gave you the right to shame my family tree?
And who gave you the right to take, intrusion to see me?
And who gave you the right to hurt my family?
And who gave you the right hurt my baby, she needs me
And who gave you the right to shame my family tree?
You put a knife in my back
    Shot an arrow in me!
Tell me are you the ghost of jealousy
    The ghost of jealousy,
    Aaow!

    Aaow
    Dog gone
But there's no doubt about it, piece of mind

Tell me are you the ghost of jealousy

In my dream smoke followed me
As on fire the whole world had been
To the yard I walked in
Up the frontstep and opened the door

Cranes flew over to the North
    As I walked on dry
    And passed through a grove
    Yellow with flowers

    They had been expecting me
They said so and I believed
In my dream smoke came to me
    And we became as one

    I am smoke

    ~ 'The Smoke' by Amorphis.

    Such dreamy and powerful lyrics.

    Went and listened to this song out of curiosity. Gods it's pretty. ;_;

I don't know if it's because of BTBAM or what, but I'm finding abstract poetry a lot more attractive lately. Maybe it's the dreaminess (or nightmarishness) of them, or maybe it's the satisfaction that comes with solving a tough riddle.

Like this gem... it took me forever to figure out what the hell it was about. XD

    Rebuild.
    Cannot close our eyes.

    Construction paper traffic...corner office destruction.
The cityscape burns brighter by the hour.
Clock tower: bring us all down.
Marching like ants to the foundation of a higher form.
Trash. Capped and smothered. Trash bag. Trash hat.

    Feed me fear. (Informal gluttony)

    Construction paper lawns...force-fed attention grabber...
    when will you learn.
    First come first serve.
The all you can eat trumpet...playing the tunes of our death.
    Breathe......now blow. Now blow.

    Let it be heard.

The preacher's talent is going through the airwaves.
(I need to be led in the right direction. Set up the bumpers...
    running in the gutter)
The little kids taught me well...
but I wonder why they don't listen anymore.
    (It's a television nightmare).
Eat and watch, eat eat eat...what they feed.
Corner office tubes...give me the best view in the hut.

    Feed me fear. (Informal gluttony)

It's about needing to rebuild ourselves as a society. It obviously outlines mass media as part of the problem, and it also talks about how living like clockwork (Clock tower: bring us all down. / Marching like ants to the foundation of a higher form) is making us complacent and unwilling to move forward or think for ourselves. And the chorus is about how we use fear to control people, both ourselves and other nations.

"Trash. Capped and smothered. Trash bag. Trash hat." are some of my favorite lyrics Tommy has written, because they managed to make me audibly go "Okay, WHAT." when I first read them. Tommy really knows how to sound random but have it still mean something, you just have to chew on it for a minute... pun semi-intended.

EDIT: I guess I should add that despite how bizarre the imagery in their songs tend to be, BTBAM's poetry is usually meant to be taken literally, which is why Informal Gluttony took me by surprise. They have one particular song that describes a headless woman who turns into an amalgamation of walking trees. There is some symbolism involved, but on the whole, the song is no more of a metaphor than any fictional story you'd read. It's not just a collection of metaphors like Informal Gluttony; it's describing a story where that very thing is actually happening.

Tommy has a hell of an imagination on him.

Weltenbrand - The Ghost of New Years Eve

In the old days one believed in Triesenberg
when one went to church at midnight on new year's eve

one could see all the deceased from the previous year

And then someone read their names and that person then

was the next one to die

A curious man went at midnight of new year's eve into the church and hid up in the choir loft

Fifteen ghosts entered the church in succession and gathered around the pulpit

A living read their names but at the end he said you
come too you who has hidden up in the organ
Pale as death the man snuck to the ghosts and suddenly everything disappeared when his wife wanted to wake him on new year's morning he laid dead in bed

Sunlight failed - but only for a while
In the moonlight pale - someone made me smile
The shining almost took me - but I made it through that night
And in the morning life it graced me - and I ran for miles

Sunlight... In a billion dreams - that are lost and won
Moonlight... In spite of all you've seen - there's only one way out

To those who understand, I extend my hand.
To the doubtful I demand: take me as I am.
Not under your command; I know where I stand.
I won't change to fit your plan; take me as I am.
    As I am.

I'm OK. I've finally found the person I've been searching for.
I'm alright. I'm feeling good about myself and that's for sure.
I remember when they said I must do things their way.
They tried to cast me in their mold, but I just had to say
That I'm OK. I'm OK this way, yes I'm OK. Yes I'm OK!
