They landed and Warner hopped off. Sariel looked around nervously. He looked quite different, lacking his wings and now sporting light, fair hair.
He looked at her, his eyes, while still blue, were a darker shade. "Huh? Oh.. I used to look like this when I was alive."
She paused before giving him a grin. "You look sweet," she said encouragingly, heading down the alleyway.
He still seemed slightly embarrassed. "Right.." he said, he and Warner following. Ker stayed, eyeing some rats.
She headed down the streets quickly, crossing onto some back roads. It wasn't as fancy here, with the streets more littered and dirty. She turned a corner and paused, her face falling. There was a young girl, no older than 10, heading down the street. She had black hair and large, round glasses, and her small frame was hugging a book, her backpack weighing her down. Tears were running down her face and she was taking in deep, shoulder shaking breaths as she walked quickly, keeping her head down.
Sariel tilted his head. Warner seemed to have kept distance, mostly interested in seeing the modern world. Sariel spoke. "Is that her?"
She was quiet, her lips parted with shock. "Why..." Her throat was dry and she shook her head. "Why is she walking alone? Dad knows she's not supposed to walk alone. Did he forget?" Her voice shook. "Why is she all alone?"
She followed the girl almost in a daze. "...why the *squee!* didn't he pick her up? She's nine. This is a bad part of town. Why didn't he pick her up?"
Sariel followed, Warner did as well but slightly slower. "Why don't we just keep a slight distance and make sure?"
