She froze, her eyes wide. She was silent for a moment before stepping forward and pulling him into a hug, her arms around his neck.
"No, baby," she said soothingly, sounding as if she were about to cry. "Don't listen to them. You're good. You're so good. Don't listen to them."
She pulled back slightly, cupping his face in her hands, studying him carefully. Her hands were warm, and her thumb brushed his cheekbone. "C'mon," she said gently. "Let's go get you cleaned up."
"Who did it to you?" she asked, going into the bathroom and running the shower, pouring in some lavender salts.
She sighed, running her fingers through his hair affectionately. "Take a shower and get yourself cleaned up. I'm going to go talk to Zad."
Zad opened the door. "Adeline. Please make it quick. I have to return to the party to help maintain it.
"Are you doing a good job?" she asked angrily, her hands shaking. "Because some people just dumped the punch bowl over Sariel's head and told him he was bad because he was an angel."
