She laughed gently, her hand on his arm. "I'll be your extra friend, then," she said easily, looking down at him affectionately. "If you want me to be."
She paused, perhaps noticing his melancholiness, before leaning down and kissing him lightly, cradling his jaw with her hands. "Nothing more, nothing less," she confirmed quietly and gently, hoping that this might make him feel better.
She moved closer to him eagerly, resting her head against his chest. The more time he would spend with her, he would recognize that she seemed to enjoy close proximity; being hugged, being held. She fell silent as she laid next to him, resting her hands on his chest, one over his heart and the other curled in his shirt.
He would soon realize that she had fallen asleep next to him. Her dark brows were furrowed slightly in sleep, as if some fly was buzzing around her head in her dreams while she tried to solve a difficult puzzle. Her hands had dropped from his chest and were now open in the small crevice between their bodies. The hair tie was almost completely useless by now, having slipped out of her straight white hair, only managing a feeble ponytail of a few hairs on the nape of her neck. Her head was tipped upwards slightly, and her lips brushed the skin of his neck, her breaths slow and steady.
He observed her carefully, reaching down and removing the hair tie gently. He set it on the bedside table before pulling up the blanket.
She murmured quietly something that might have been about turmeric, but she moved too, wrapping her arms around his waist and burying her face in his neck. The tip of her nose was slightly cold, but her lips were warm and soft by contrast.
She drifted off into a deeper sleep, cuddling up to him. She was still mumbling a little under her breath and he would be able to make some of it out if he listened. "...I love you... Latch the gate when you're... when you're done..."
Addie shifted awake in the late afternoon, blinking sleepily as the sun streamed in through the window, hitting them in the face. She frowned, looking over at Warner.
