There was a pause before the egg hatched in his hand, revealing a dark-eyed, yellow chick, peeping noisily. Around him, suddenly, eggs emerged from the dirt, hatching by his feet.
A slow, sweet smile crossed her lips, but her eyes remained closed and the birds grew suddenly, all different varieties cozying up to Sariel. Some nestled in his wings and others perched on his shoulders, cooing sweetly.
"Oh, good," she said tiredly. She craned her head back, almost as if she were checking the sky, before turning to look at the ditch.
He frowned, considering it. "I don't know. I guess I could bring light to blind.. I suppose it depends. My magic is never used like that."
