I'm not sure if it's really the good tread to post that, administrators can move it if it's not in the right place. Anyway, like I have said in my presentation, i'm french. I can read and speak english without problems and really enjoy some fanfics in original version, like Yours Truly. I'm a fanfic writer but of course, a french fanfic writer. So only french bronies can read (and I hope love) my work. I decided to translate my own fanfiction but I have to face the truth : if translate from a foreign language to his mother tongue is easy, it's not the same on the other way. I'm terrible to transform my fic in an english one. But I imagine we, the french are not the only bronies who translate fanfics, right ? There's probably english translators as well there's spanish ones or dutch or german. So, if someone of this forum could help me, it will be really enjoyable. Thanks
While I have no abilities as a translator, I would still like to offer my help. If you do manage a translation, I could proofread that translation. Given that some French phrases and sayings aren't likely to translate perfectly into English, I might be able to provide some alternatives. Let me know if what I said makes any sense. I'd be happy to help as I can.
I did GCSE French, but I'm far from fluent in French. If you were to provide the original, I'd be happy to try to translate it (with the help of online translator and maybe even the language department in my school). Even if you were to Google Translate it all, I'm sure a group of us could just proofread it.
You'll have to find someone with a good grasp of English skills, or someone that could mirror your writing level. After that, it's all about translating everything with the same intent and emotion that it was written. It may seem simple, but Japanese manga (for example) can be very difficult to emulate some of their cultural jokes and play on words, or even entire sentences and phrases because their characters differ greatly than English words.
That's why I registred here : i could translate my fanfic with Googletrad, Reverso or another translator website but all the expressions, the tropes, will no be understand as such by the computer. If you could try to provide both, that would be great (but the original will be fine on its own). Although I'm off school at the moment, so I won't be able to get any help from there. I'd still try to translate it for you though. Although Aynine brings up a good point. Once the basic translation is done, we could try to put the emotion back into the text (if it does lose any). Although I may need some help from more experienced writers to do that.
Okay so I menage to translate it a first time with Googletrad (in pieces because it only worked all the 15 pages) and the result is pretty scary : it's really a word to word translation, it's dosen't mean anything at all. But if it can help you... Anyway, so, I have now my fanfiction in french and in googletrad english on another .doc. Could you send me your e-mail adress by private message so I can send them to you in attached files ? PS : I also have my original version in .odt and .pdf. What format would you prefer ?
