What's called America isn't a homogeneous bloc. Part of it is comprised of a small handful of opulent oligarchs that do very little, if any, productive work. Trump is part of this group, and he is for the interests of this group, starting with himself (others in this bloc despis Trump, as he is ruthlessly exposing their naked interests before the world). The other main part of America is the majority of people who do virtually all of the productive work and often receive enough just to get by in wages. Trump made demagogic appeals to the more downtrodden and backward elements among them. However, as I proved above, his antics are wearing thin even with blue collar whites. "Make America Great Again" is being exposed as hollow rhetoric, as "hope" and "change" were. It is, of course, being exposed much more quickly, thanks to events and the fact that Trump lacks the cunning Obama had in defending the interests of the "one percent". Even if Trump goes, whether via impeachment, electoral defeat, or running two terms, where do we go from there? A return to the Democrats is a return to those who paved the way for Trump in the first place (and perhaps they will pave the way for another "Trump"). Impeachment of Trump means we get President Pence. There is no solution on the basis of electing bourgeois oligarchs.
Well, that's a shame. And honestly, probably a good topic for another thread. Gives me an idea, actually.
