Energy beams. That's the only connection really. People always flip out over the littlest similarities to other things with every episode.
After re-watching the finale, I must say that I was really impressed with the voice acting of Andrea Libman and John de Lancie. Pure, soul-crushing betrayal is an incredibly difficult emotion for a VA to convey, and they both pulled it of perfectly.
So after watching the finale for the third time, I've come to the conclusion that this was the best episode(s) of the season (obviously). The Chryssi episode(s) still claims the crown for me but this was only a whisker away. The intro was a tad slow but as soon as the Princess's song started, it was pure quality to the very end. I prefer female antagonists in MLP but Tirek was a very cool character with amazing voice acting. my two favorite scenes were when Tirek appeared in the theater and the scene where Discord and Tirek first meet. The song at the start is one of the best songs of the season because all of them have amazing voices, especially Cadance surprisingly, however I prefer the "Bats" song as my favorite. I'm not sure whether I like Twilight's new castle but if it means we get a brand new intro for Season 5 then I can live happily knowing I don't have to skip those first 30 seconds. The way the magic keys were handled was very well done because it didn't eat up too much screen time and was subtle enough to not disrupt the tension of the episode. Discords and Tireks relationship was very cool to examine and De Lancie's role was perfect for me, making me feel sorry for Discord, knowing full well he was being a villain to the ponies. I really hope we see more of Discord in the upcoming seasons because it would be such a shame to throw out his plot ties after this epic finale. From the point Twilight and Tirek meet, it's just full-on tied to your seat action and the lazer wars was beyond awesome for a show about multi-coloured ponies. The Rainbow transformations for me was very well done because it wrapped up the ending quickly in traditional fashion by enabling a one-hit killer rainbow rather than have a trying to add to the battle prior. I could say so much more about this episode but overall it was just amazing to watch and it gives me great pride and hope that this show is on a road to success in the next Seasons. I'm not sure how they're going to top themselves afer this but they're full of surprises. I give the first part a 8.5 and the second part a 9
My exact words when watching the rainbow transformation: "Well, that's gaudy. We're hoping that's temporary." I'm glad it was.
This was quite the episode! I was very happy with it! Best fight sequence in the series, in my opinion. Since I am a colt of few words, that's all I have to say.
I only just got a chance to atch the Finale yesterday and... just... wow. It was pretty much everything one could have hoped it would be. The Spoiler: Possible Spoiler DBZ style fight scene was probably my favourite thing about it. Fair to say Season 4 has ended strongly!
Just found a pretty exploitable image in the season finale. Applejack looks kind of lazy-eyed though.
Wow, that was one intense episode, especially that last fight. Gotta say I loved Tirek (but not the way he was defeated ). Aaaaaand time for another off-season period, great. *looks through all the S4 memes in the meantime*
I liked it, buuuut... Someone may have pointed this out, but Discord didn't go back to the mane six out of figuring out the importance of friendship, he just kind of realized that he got screwed over and switched back. That aspect seemed weak to me. If he didn't get screwed over, he would have stuck with Tirek.
Discord was the most important character to me in this episode. I know how hard it can be to abandon something that is a big part of your life. Another example is Vegeta from DBZ. Eventually, urges start developing. He learned his lesson and I doubt he will ever even consider it again. As soon as Tirek betrayed him he knew precisely how he made everyone else feel, and it hit him hard. Not to mention he was feeling regret the whole time. His expression when betraying Shining Armor and the mane 6 are proof enough of that. Now that he has shared the same pain and enemy as the mane 6, I feel like his relationship with all of them will only get better from now on. Also, am I the only one who teared up when he said "You're worth it Fluttershy. You're the one who taught me that friendship is magic. I had magic AND friendship. Now, I don't have either."
