Yea, because we are TOTALLY just going to sit around with South Korea while North Korea is attacking waiting for a UN okay, sure.
The Patriot Missile system II has a better hit ratio on enemy missiles than it's first version. - - Auto Merge - - No nuclear device in the world is remotely accurate, even if you hit the target the winds will shift the radiation around meaning that you'll wind up poisoning others that you had no intentions of harming.
Oh jeez, let's see here... @Snow - Snowdrop was correct, the anti-missle defense systems we have on the west coast as of now have been described by military officials in our own government as "ineffective" and the 16 Interceptor missiles they are adding to Fort Greeley, Alaska (in addition to the 26 that are already there) won't be there until 2017, about 5 years from now. As for whether or not they have the capability to hit us, well we didn't think they had the capability to make nuclear bombs either...until they did. http://bostonglobe.com/news/world/2013/04/03/deploy-anti-missile-system-guam/86mHP2wjLLL6euiomoaHxL/story.html @Rashall - What you said about nuclear fallout is mostly true, nuclear devices are much more accurate and have less radiation fallout than they did years ago, but they still do, and there is still a possibility that nearby countries (our allies) could be affected. Hence, why we can't nuke N. Korea even if we wanted to.
Hey, I found something I think you guys would find interesting, just a thread like this one on another sight that brings up a lot of points from both sides: http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1bq1aw/why_did_we_go_to_war_in_iraq_under_false/ (It was originally for why Iraq but not NK, but it became a lot more)
You know, things would be a lot simpler if the U.N. just said 'Yo, guys, let's wipe North Korea off the face of the earth instead of deciding if Gay Marriage should be allowed or not.' Priorities, guys. (I know the U.N. doesn't discuss that. I'm actually more worried about Israel and Pakistan than I am about NK and their evidently lacking ICBM structure.) I'm fairly sure that NK has the technology to reach the US. We'll just shoot it down before it gets here though.
Being of a different country to the belligerents of this conflict doesn't mean you don't have the right to express an opinion, you realise? Also, I learnt Hangul this morning. Incredibly easy.
I wouldn't bank on it. Anti-missile systems have been criticized for their effectiveness for many years. Government and the military love to claim they have upwards of an 80% success rate, but that's been proven false again and again. In the Persian war the U.S. Army said that the Patriot missile system had a 96% success rate at shooting down enemy rockets. However, scientists from M.I.T. analyzed video of the shootdowns and found almost nothing but misses. Israel recently unveiled a new interceptor anti-missile defense system called Iron Dome, partially funded by the U.S. - Israels' leaders have claimed the system to have a 84% success rate, but video analysis has shown it to be closer to 60%, and Richard M. Lloyd, a weapons expert who has written critiques of the system for the Iron Dome engineers, has estimated its effectiveness to be closer to 40%. Saying you're going to wipe the DPRK off the face of the Earth is like saying 'lol lets throw bombs at ****rees becuz there worse than us'. Diplomacy never hurt anyone.
I say, we let them throw the first punch, roll up in there, kick butt in the all of 3 hours that we need to, and then open "freedom bay" to the world. The New South Korean Island will be awesome! Now jokes aside, North Korea isn't a threat as long as we take down their old missiles. Their weapons are from the Cold War, same with their equipment and military clothing and technology. NK is nothing to fear, and if we have to fight I don't see it lasting more then a year AT MOST! Atleast 3 months. I don't care. Let's see what happens though.
War? Not. Going to. Happen. Here's why: 1. Whereas Russia has thousands of nuclear missiles, North Korea has one (1). 2. When your two biggest allies, China and Russia, are like, "Bro, you can't be doing this" you know they're not gonna come to your aid. 3. Going back to reason 1, if they hit the US, we'll wipe them off the map, we've got nuclear missiles 20 times stronger than the bombs we dropped in WWII.
I haven't looked into to this topic much, so I'll probably day something incorrect, but this is what I assume is happening: - North Korea are threatening to use a nuclear missile - Pretty much every country in the world opposes North Korea - A few of these opposing countries have much stronger nuclear weapons and have more than one of them - The North Korean army isn't even that strong If all of that is true, then North Korea are stupid to even attempt doing it and it will be the quickest war ever.
Huh, ok my post miraculously disappeared. Take 2 Pretty much. I'm pretty sure North Korea is just trying for attention. But maybe Kim Jong Un really is that insane and will start a legit war. And it'd be the shortest war indeed. Though I'm equally as mad, if not more with the US and why we/they can't just stop meddling with other's issues. Just stahp
Because we have to honor all the little agreements we made with nations across the world during the Cold War to contain communism, for the most part. Also a superpower can't just disappear from the world(little known fact is that the US basically foots the defense bill for most of its allies, allowing to spend on other things like social programs. To be short, without the US being everywhere, Europe's social programs would collapse just like they did in Greece.)
Well, so much for citing sources and debating the finer points of diplomacy and averting a nuclear catastrophe. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em I suppose: Yeahh!!1 WE'RE 'MURICA! If'n they lookit us the wrong ways we'll just blow 'em off the face of the planet with these herr A-bombs! Woohoo!!!
