"Thanks." she said, walking through the door. She stepped into the early morning sunshine, and looked around to get her bearings. "This way." she said, slipping down an old alleyway.
Adam had to duck down to get the bass in through the front doors of the school. He trembled from the sheet weight of the instrument. "Why couldn't they let us use school instruments..." Adam mumbled, before checking his map of the school. "Ugh, the Orchestra class is all the way in C Hall?" Adam thought, before following the map to his destination.
She ignored a few stares, and mumbles from the homeless as they wove through the alleys. They eventually got to the run down shack, and she opened the door. "Sorry about the mess." she said softly. Her boots crunched over the glass from yesterday as she went into the house. She raised a finger to her lips. Shh. Quickly, she went into one of the rooms, and emerged with a backpack, and books. A loud snore came from down the hall. "Let's go." she said.
The ride home was long, and quiet. Star's father would glance at her every now and then from the rearview mirror. His stare indicated a disapproval that was palpable. "Who was it?" Her father's voice rumbled. Star cast her eyes downward. "I...I just fell. It's nothing serious." Her father let out a low growl. "The nurse said that a boy...in a costume...was with you. Was it him?" Star vehemently shook her head. "Absolutely not" Her father grumbled again, suggesting that he didn't believe her. ----- "Star." Now, at the dinner table, Star's father had called down a bit. They were eating a light salad. Star mumbled a reply, but said nothing. The father sighed. "The loss of your mother has affected us both. I could not protect her, but I will do everything in my power to protect you. If you don't feel safe at this new school, let me know." "I'm okay, Dad." Her father sighed. "Alright. I still want to talk to your principal...Celestia, was it?" "Mmhmm." ----- The next day, Star was escorted to the school be her father, a rather large-framed man with a dark complexion and jet black hair. His green eyes seemed to burn with perpetual silent fury. He took his daughter directly to the Principal's office. "Stay here," he said, as he stepped into the office. ----- Celestia sighed, realizing that she will hadn't made her point. The large man before her had immediately begun shouting and growling about his daughter having been attacked the day before. She tried to explain in her calmest voice, "Mr. Sombra, if you'd just sit down for a moment..." Sombra folded his arms and glowered at the principal. "I would prefer to stand." Celestia seated herself. "Very well. I'll sit. Now, Mr. Sombra, I understand your concern, and I want to tell you that I've already discussed the matter with my nephew, who was with your daughter at the time." Sombra nodded. "Is this so?" "Yes. Now, he explained to me, in detail, that he and your daughter, Star Shimmer, were having a nice chat when they were suddenly attacked by a young man dressed head-to-toe in some sort of red and blue costume." It was at this point that Sombra finally sat. "I see..." ----- As Sombra exited the office, an announcement went over the intercom. "Blueblood, please report to the principal's office, Blueblood tot he principal's office." Within moments, the hall monitor appeared with an innocent smile on his face. "Yes?" Sombra put a firm hand on the boy's shoulder. "Keep an eye on her," he said, motioning to Star Shimmer. "No problem, sir!"
As Peter and Maggie arrived at the school, Peter noticed a sign that said "Down with the Spider-menace." He looked at it then at Maggie. "You go on ahead. I'll catch up later." Look's like Blueblood got his revenge on me after all, I guess I'll hear more about this during announcements.
When Adam arrived at the Orchestra class, there were several other students waiting in line with their instruments. At the front was the director, Mrs. Octavia. He got to the back of the line and examined the room. It was much bigger than the other classrooms, and the walls were covered with awards from concerts and performances, along with pictures of the previous classes.
When Stephanie arrived she walked to her locker putting some stuff away and headed down to C hall. When she arrived she noticed Adam but saw he was busy so continued into the class meeting with Ms Jolie to discuss the play and auditions. After a while and when noticing Adam had finished she approached him. "Hey Adam, I'm guessing you're trying out for Orchestra. I'm heading down there just so I know where it is. I've got Drama auditions today down there so we could be working together soon." Steph then quietly told Adam about the incident involving her Rich Dad, The phone call and the school board.
Maggie looked at him. "OK.." She started walking, then turned around. "Peter, thanks." She walked off, and got into the school, and ran straight into Blueblood and Star. She tried to slink by, but he saw her.
"Oh, morning Stephanie." Adam said. "Yeah, I heard the try-outs are a bit nerve-wracking, but I think I'll be ok. Oh, no thank you, this thing isn't THAT bad, it's more it's size than weight that makes it hard to carry. Thanks for the offer though." Adam then heard Stephanie tell him about the situation with her dad. "Heh, Parents. They mean well, but sometimes they don't know what they're up against. Well, I should be heading off, Good luck in Drama Auditions!"
"See you in homeroom and good luck to you too. If we both get this you could be providing the soundtrack to the songs I'll be singing." she waved goodbye before heading to Homeroom arrivingabout ten minutes before the bell wentt. "Morning sir. Have you heard about the Blueblood incident. My dad's called the Board about it." she sounded slightly annoyed mainly towards her dad.
After Sombra left, Blueblood grinned and lightly pushed Star just as Maggie ran into them. "Well, look at that! It's my two favorite girls in the same place!" He put his arm around Star. "Sparkles and I are best buddies now! If ya want, Gorgeous, you can join us at the Big Kids' table for lunch today!"
Maggie stared at them. "Oh, Star, I was just looking for you. Can you come help me in the art room? Ms. Trixie needs help.
(Wow guys. I can't keep up because I'm working... Geez...) Jessie ran up and jumped onto Blueblood's back. "Did you miss me? I know the girls did." He smiled and punched Blueblood's shoulder before jumping off of him and standing between him and the girls. "Tell ya what, if you can land a punch on me, I'll let you have at the girls. Of course, you won't be able to." Blueblood angrily laughed and started punching towards Jessie, who joking dodged every punch until Blueblood was panting. "And that's game. I think we should leave."
When Adam approached the front of the line, the teacher spoke up. "Name?" "Adam Summers." "Well, you look just like your older brother, how's he doing now?" "He's doing great! He's just enlisted in the Navy, Mrs. Octavia." "That's great news!"She said, before writing down some more information on her clipboard. "Ok, what piece will you be playing?" She asked. "A short excerpt from, 'There Ain't No Rest For The Wicked." Adam responded. He took his bow out of the quiver, and put his music on the stand, and began playing. He nailed every note at the exact time, he got lost in the music, and continued on, even after he finished what was written on the sheet, having memorized the entire song. "That was great Adam, come back at the end of the day and I'll give you your results."
Peter walked through the crowd towards Blueblood "Don't hog all the fun, Jessie.", he chuckled. "So, Blueblood, I heard you got beat by some nut wearing spandex."
