I'm really into Fullmetal Alchemist, Durarara, and K-on, but I really feel like there's a whole great bounty of good manga I'm missing out on. Anyone know of any good series?
I already watch DBZ, or at least to when I was a kid and I've seen Bleach a couple times on late night Adult Swim and thought it was really good, but never really thought to get into it. I really can't stand Naruto, though...Could you tell me what do people like about it anyway?
Noblesse, Tower of God, Cage of eden, Psyren, Fairy Tail, the Breaker, Girls of the wild, Crepuscule, Beelzebub, the world god only knows, hitman reborn, The god of high school, Witch hunter, Medaka Box, Pandora Hearts, Special martial arts extreme hell private high school. Yes, that last one actually exists. You can thank my uber-otaku friend for that list.
Looking over to my shelf of manga is see a lot of Lucky Star! I also really like Bakuman but I have only read the first book.
These are just my opinions, but... Naruto is good in terms of its plot and character development. I personally also like the art style. I think this manga is fairly balanced. A lot of people don't like the anime, but the manga is much, much better. The main characters and side characters all receive their own fair share of attention, and the story really challenges your definition of who the good guys and bad guys really are. One Piece is truly good for its background art, use of perspective, and the fact that the characterization is beautifully done. The story can get confusing at times. New characters, powers and ideas are constantly introduced, but ultimately they keep themselves consistent with the original concept. Bleach is really good in terms of art. The backgrounds are fairly weak and there isn't always as much detail as one might find in Naruto or One Piece (especially One Piece), but the black/white contrast of the art style is as memorable as it is entrancing. The story is also somewhat weak, but each character is receives a fairly equal amount of attention. Psyren is well-balanced in terms of black/white contrast and detail. Each character receives a fair amount of attention, the story is very consistent, and the characters develop very well. I would recommend Psyren as the manga you should read. If those aren't to your taste and you prefer more comedic manga, then try Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (one of my personal favorites).
i really like the .hack// Sries, its made of animes, mangas, books and video games. Hunter X Hunter was fun. And Hellsing, but its very dark and brutal.
Naruto is still my favorite. Actually, it's the only one I've ever read. I've waited every week for a new chapter for 4 years.
Good manga? One Piece Naruto Bleach Rosario+Vampire Hayate the Combat Butler Fairy Tail Death Note Yankee-Kun to Megane-Chan Fullmetal Alchemist Good anime? Seto no Hanayome FLCL Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Lovely Complex Kanon 2006 Clannad The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Macademy Wasshoi! Plenty more I can't think of.
Death Note is a fantastic manga. I also like Bakuman, which is from the same creator, but I only have 3 of the books. Trigun is really good as well. What else can I come up with... Hunter X Hunter Rurouni Kenshin D. N. Angel (Fantastic series) Pokemon Adventures (It's surprisingly really good for a children's series) Anime wise... The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Lucky Star Kids On The Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) Trigun Cowboy Bebop Baccano I highly suggest you check out Sgt Frog. It's my favorite anime. Only 3 seasons have been dubbed so far though. I suggest you watch the dub or else you won't understand the jokes. I hear the manga is pretty good too, but you would probably want to check out the official translation so you understand more jokes.
The entire Dragon Ball series, Sailor Moon and Naruto are the best anime shows and mangas ever. I also watch Bakugan but there is no manga for the original series or any shows that features the original cast so yeah.
The thing about dubs and official translations is they often take many liberties to make things more relatable, but in so doing lose many things form the original dialogue. I've seen it happen many times where the things they say in English are completely unrelated to what they really say in Japanese. Lupin III and Crayon Shin-Chan are really bad about this. x_x Personally, I stick with subbed things and fan-translated things to keep the feel as close to the original as I can. ^^
