No, I'm talking more about distinguishing yourself from your parents or from the previous generation by doing something that they don't agree with or that they find shocking. I wonder if that's a factor (among many others) that motivates some people to become brones
The same factors that made shows like "Danny Phantom", "Invader Zim", "Adventure Time", "Avatar: The Last Airbender", "Batman: The Animated Series", "Gaorgoyles", "Teen Titans", "Spectacular Spider-Man", "Young Justice" and the 2003 version of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" such sucesses: intelligent, mature writing that appeals to both kids and adults.
My view is that, there have surely been better shows in the past, in terms of production quality, yet somehow, this one show, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is my favorite. Just watch Wakfu, or even just some old Tom & Jerry cartoons, and you'll see the amount of production quality. But something about this show; Where other shows make up for good animation, production quality, and budget, this show makes up for storylines and characters. I've only felt emotion for one cartoon in my life, and it is this one. And it's been the full spectrum =P. Edit: Don't get me wrong, I watch a lot of other cartoons, too. And I feel emotion, but MLP was the show that set it off XD.
I think the art style, colors, animation, decent-to good episode plots, songs, voice acting, and the interesting and loveable cast of characters are why. It's a very watchable show, besides magical mystery cure, I don't recall ever having difficulty watching an episode from start to finish. But honestly, I think it's overrated. Despite the quality of the episode plots...they aren't usually that interesting, IMO, and the show rarely, despite attempting to frequently, makes me genuinely laugh. But I still really enjoy the show, nonetheless. Ya, I agree, I think most bronies watch the show because they actually enjoy it. I don't think I've ever heard of someone becoming a brony just to "be different".
Thats very hard to answer. what drew me in were the unexpected complexities of the characters. the lore is frankly deeper than any show about ponies should be.
