Maybe she crashed into the rainbow making vats as see in the "Sonic Rainboom Episode" an the spice of them stained her Maine & tail for life and gave her Rainbow fly streaks?
I find Rainbow Dash to be a bit too much "in your face" for my liking. It's the same reason I don't like Scootaloo all that much. Sure, I respect her, the same way I respect all you guys, but I doubt me and her would be best friends.
That's probably the only flaw that she has, at least to me. There are times when here bragging and thinking she's better than everyone else can a little on the irritiating side. Don't worry, for the most part I can look past it, alot of the time. I'm glad someone mentioned her voice! I like how her voice sort of cracks when she says Pinkie Pie's name. Especially when she's happy to see her. Listen to her voice the next time she says PP name. You might hear it. Also, when she squeels in episode 26. My goodness! I think my heart melted when she did that! I swear! That explains why so many upbeat Judas Priest songs remind me of her. (for example, their song "Painkiller") I honestly have no idea why I like Rainbow Dash so much now. For the first season, she wasn't even my top favorite pony. Only my second favorite. Maybe it was some of the Dash fics I read at one time a while ago made me just fall in love (not like that!) with her. I'll be honet with you all here. Whenever she comes on screen in any episode, I can't help but think "She is just SOOOO adorable! Why is she so adorable?" One more thing, then I'll stop gushing! How adorable did she look in her gala dress? My goodness!

Something I forgot to mention. When I'm not slightly irritated by her constant bragging I'm thinking "Why is she so awesome?" Also, I'm at the point where I find every little thing she does adorable! There I go gushing again!
She has some of the best quotes without question. I do like her personality as I found myself attracted to women with stronger personalities along the lines of her (not her though to clear that up). However, as great as she is, she is a bit too in your face to be my favorite. Fluttershy takes that spot with her rage fits and the stare dealy. Dash is cool but she remains #2 for me.
She has been my favorite from the start. And I don't think she brags too much, the only time I felt like she's been doing that is in her own episodes in season 2. But if she didn't do that in those episodes, there would be no moral in those episodes. And one of the things you can't miss about her is her voice! I really love how her voice crack ups all the time.. (x And I feel like she's the most masculine of all of them (Maybe AppleJack too?) which evens out all the girlyness of the show.
^This. All of this. RBD is #3 for me, behind Pinkie Pie and fluttershy, mainly because she tends to get in your face a lot. She's overconfident. And, as the Great Yoshimitsu once said: Overconfidence is thy greatest enemy!
The only reason why I really like her at all, her being tied for number three on my list with Applederp, is the fact that I connect with her so much. She is similar to me in that she cares about her friends, she's a bit headstrong, loves being praised, and she doesn't care what others think.
Somepony mentioned her voice, yeah, that is a big part of why I like her, I love that quirk in her voice you can sometimes hear. As for why I am so obsessed about her, let's say she is my type of girl, I tend to be drawn to confidence, tomboyish traits and androgynity, which is why I somtimes refer to my sexuality as "kinda straight". I also like the idea of the girl being the dominant part of a relationship. Girlfriend preferences aside, she is just awesome, has a great voice and is a great character. Flawed? Yes, but that just makes her feel more real. I really can't blaim her for being boastful, she has amazing talent after all. That and I am not so humble myself, I usually use my pride to shield my feelings from being hurt, I feel Rainbow is the same way. I love you Rainbow Dash .
