Halo strikes a cord with me emotionally (Ha! Get it? A chord? No? Okay.) as it was one of the first games I played on the XBOX as a kid. Going over to my mates house, settling down on the couch and sticking that disk in, and then then the theme song coming over the title screen... The sudden guitar riff still gives me chills. Martin O'donnell is a genius, none of the Halo themes have disappointed me yet. Which video game music is my favorite? Oh god, what is this place filled with so many choices. I honestl cannot settle on a single track, so I'll pick a game which I believe has the best music. Some people hate it, others love it, but nobody can deny that Final Fantasy 8 has extremely powerful music. No, not the final boss music(s), no not the boss music(s), I much prefer the choice of area music the team used in the game, they create such strong emotions in the player. The song itself is rather special to me because as a kid my brother would play the final area of the game repeatedly so the nostalgia factor is high, but also the way the music is creates a powerful sense of dread and reinforces the desperate struggle motif.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but my favorite tune from a video game is caught between the old Green Hill Zone theme from Sonic 1 and the Lavender Town theme. Recently I've taken a shine to the hardcore gangster rap tracks of Saints Row. No one man should have all that power. The clock's tickin', I just count the hours...
