I assume by "first episode", you mean both parts of the pilot?

I'd already seen one episode ("Read It and Weep"), so I was beyond the kneejerk reaction of "Okay, there sure are a lot of bright colors and cutsie ponies..." and was able to focus more on the story, characters, animation, etc.

It started off kind of slow to me, introducing the characters (whom I hadn't come to love yet) and all. Some good laughs, though. I started to warm to it a lot when Pinkie started singing and Twilight said, "Tell me she's not...", because that was basically what I had been thinking. Then, I started getting more and more into it, and the ending took me by surprise. I wasn't an instant brony, but it surprised and impressed me enough to get me to watch the next episode, and then the next, and so on...and the rest is history (at least, it is in my own little fantasy world).

First episode? I have to say... Flutterguy. More likely, that one scene where she sings Pinkie's song. Made me wanna check it out.

I start looking at MLP FIM because I saw an animation Frienship is still magic, where Luna was a nutjob for being alone in the moon for hundreds of years and I was like: "Okay the animation is great, but what the hell is so gret about the cartoon? how is it possible that such character belongs to a girlish cartoon?" then I saw what was in that moment the newest episode "May the best pet win", in that instant I thought the cartoon wasnt half bad, but actually not worthy of the time some people seem to spend on it, my quest to find out this Luna character starts again with those episodes I was like: "well it is quite PPG but not being either to stupid and it obviously isnt the previous MLP cartoon", from the first episode Fluttershy's squee moments got me laughing, with the third episode Spike's.attitude toward girlish things was something I identified myself, I was "I hear you, cant believe am looking at this stuff over a single character"
I choose to look at the episodes in order to understand what was the whole thing with the fandom, before I knew it in 3 days I had seen the first season, however I realised the character Luna wasnt anywhere to be seen again (or so I thought) in the 12 or so episode and realised that I like the cartoon, the episode that actually got me was "Bridle gossip", I couldnt believe the references made by Spike (appletiny) and Rarity (personal space). By december I had all the episodes to date, but the fandom music wasnt in my attention until I heard Mic and Wooden toaster Nightmare Night, which Ill admit it was a mistake click, one am gratefull for, and on february I was looking everywhere for all the music the fans had created. But from the fanfics... I have to admit I read only those that are referred to me, I hate those with sexual content or those where characters trully deviate from what is on the cartoons (unless they are comedy), I mean thats to go beyond a point I truly dont care for.

Yeah I know you asked for the first episode reaction but i felt like teling the whole thing.

The first episode was actually one of the last ones I saw...

Joy. I felt like a kid again. Like so many others, I watched to see what the fuss was about. Know Your Meme brought it to my attention. I waited for a night my roomie was out, and watched 1 and 2. My only thought after was "Welp, I'm a brony now!".

My first exposure to MLP:FiM was a clip on youtube of Flutterguy singing Pinkie Pie's Evil Enchantress song. That scene was just too amazing for me and I had to find out what it came from and where I could get more. From that point on I found all the episodes and was hooked.

My first reaction was happiness but at the same time I was like "Why am I doing this!?"

I watched the first two episodes and was hooked. I then got the rest of the ep's and finished them in a week xD

I had actually been indifferent to the whole brony phenomenon until I saw a YouTube Poop of the first few episodes of Season 1 and I decided to give the show a try after reading on TVTropes that most of the episodes were on YouTube. I watched all of Season 1 and the first few episodes of Season 2 on a YouTube channel that Hasbro took down as soon as I had watched every video on it, which was pretty convenient. So I obviously liked it.

I didn't really get into it until S1E7. The only reason I continued watching was because my friend told me I had to keep watching it. That, and the lores interested me.

first time I ever experienced ponies was somewhere around a year ago, when I stumbled on this pic somewhere
    [IMG]

I did a little research, then decided I'd youtube an episode, or at least the scene where that picture came from. Somehow I managed to get to a youtube vid of Pinkie Pie singing the Cupcake song. I watched the whole song, and deemed it the most obnoxious, childish-looking show I had ever seen. I couldn't comprehend how anyone over the age of 6 could stand to watch it, much less enjoy it.

And then 7 months later, when I had completely forgotten about the first time, I tried again from the pilot. And loved it from the beginning.

    Yay for 100 posts!

Anyway I started with watching Applebuck Season at the end of summer.

Then I could not stop watch that episode.

And I was so hyped about Secret of My Excess because that would be on my own Birthday.
