Hello everypony! My name is Lane Alexander. I've been a brony since the first episode. I got hooked straight away and have watched every episode thus far as most bronys have. I'm kinda upset as it is very hard to find a good post about bronys. All I wanna know is who we are. What do we stand for? Out side of the pony world what kinda characters do we live? I try and live by the elements and it has gotten me pretty far but other than that what makes us bronys? Why are we the idles of harmony? I'd love a response as I'm feeling a bit down. -from your fellow brony
What are bronies, what is any fandom to the outside world? Noting. It's fans of a show about colorful horses. There is nothing as a group to stand for. As a individual you can take things from the show to apply to your life, that's all well and good. I just wouldn't think of bronies as anything special in the world. That's just me though.
We're not a movement, and we're not making a statement. We're just a bunch of people who watch colourful horses sing about friendship. And that's fine.
We're just a bunch of fans of a show that was not meant for us who do fan art, write songs and fanfics, and talk about the philosophical meanings behind the show! In short... WE'RE ALL NERDS!!!!
Thank you all for posting. Even though I didn't get the awnser I desired I feel much better. I suppose it would be pretty bad if we tried spreading our fandom past those who wish to join. Thanks again guys you really helped.
If you dig up some ancient threads I'm sure you'd discover the answer you're looking for. Everyone here has felt how you feel at some point, no matter how much they try to deny it.
Some people still do that, though. Uh, no. Just because you might have, it doesn't mean everyone have felt that way.
Truth. I was thinking this exact same thing reading through this thread. A lot of people who would deny it now used to make it a point to be kinder to people in everyday life, to be more open to making friends, to assist those who were in need and who thought that these ponies could change everything. Admit it But the novelty wore off and most -myself included- don't really believe that being a brony really stands for anything anymore. But unlike most, I'm willing to admit that back then it sure did seem like it did. It was kinda like the internet version of woodstock, you had to have been there So, who are we? Mostly we're just a group of people who really like the same show. Also, I've noticed that an astounding amount of bronies seem to share a lot of similar traits and interests. We also tend to be nice and enjoy feels, friendship and brightly colored things that move around wildly on the screen and say funny stuff. We're people with sophisticated taste in our saturday morning cartoons. Or we're the subtle movers and shakers of the world. Although the real question is, who do you wanna be?
But even if a lot of people did experience some kind of common philosophy or something in the beginning, not everyone bought into that. I always just liked to watch ponies. Sure I was more ecstatic about it back in the beginning, but I never felt the show taught me something I didn't already attempt to live by. My point is, maybe you personally felt that the fandom gave you something that changed the way you lived your life from day to day. Maybe it made you be a little kinder to strangers and so forth. That's great. But you can't just assert your personal experiences onto others and assume that if they claim theirs are different from yours, they are simply in denial.
Nah, it wasn't just me, or him. It was everybody back then, at least here on EP anyway. Like I said, it was one of those things where you had to have been there. Grey's signature speaks truth ...ok, maybe "everybody" is a little too over-generalizing... perhaps 95% though?
I thought we were talking about the fandom, not EP. Wan't very specific. I haven't been on here for that long, so I can't really speak for 'ancient EP'.
Well, we're a niche in Nerd culture now. And while the initial excitement may have left, it's at least left this unit of people that would never have met otherwise we call Everypony.com. So, there's that and I'm eternally thankful. Although, this reminded me of a little video. Not just because we're bronies but because http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/7645-With-Great-Power
Maybe not everyone felt it. The closest thing I felt to it, I would now call blindness. I thought the world could do with all that harmony junk and what not. I quickly learned otherwise. Frost is right about it being like that on EP though.
From what I've seen it was a majority thing, not just on EP but across just about every other forum and niche site for MLP that was rooted in the early days of the fandom. It essentially was just a "honeymoon phase". Some new members to the fandom still go through this phase, but probably to a lesser extent since they didn't go through it with "everyone else" (for lack of a better term) since the now older members don't exactly feel that way anymore (less to rub off for new people). Is it a generalization? Yeah, but it is one that bears enough weight to have some fact. There's always people new and old who never went/go through that phase. I'd say generally speaking it's a common thing to happen, especially with new fandoms.
