Why are some people so against bronies?

I honestly have no idea if you were taking a shot at me or not with that. So, for the sake of polite conversation I am going to assume you weren't. To dislike an entire fandom for no reason is really, at its core no different from hating people for their religious beliefs, sexuality or even the type of music they listen to. It is not logical. It does not make sense. Sure, we have some who do not represent the community well - but then so does everyone else. That doesn't validate that hatred one bit. 'Because some bronies are vocal and to an extent obnoxious about their fandom' - That's not a valid reason for anything. Some muslims and christians are extremists. Does that mean all muslims and christians are extremists? No, it doesn't.

So seriously, how do you validate such hatred based off a few examples of a community? You wouldn't do it based on race, religion, sexuality or lifestyle, so what right is there to do it based on a fandom? The principle of it the same - I view those who actively hate and discriminate against a fandom of a TV show as no better than those who choose to discriminate based on religion, race or lifestyle - because at the end of the day we're all the same. And at the end of the day our genetic codes are still 50% identical to a banana.

Also, it is worth mentioning that the creators of the show have made open fandom and continuity nods - there are easter eggs scattered throughout each series, some of which openly refer to other fandoms as well. Seriously, Dr Whooves and Amy cropped up in an episode - how else do you explain a pony with an hourglass mark, a bowtie and 3D glasses accompanied by another with a rose mark? It's not coincidence, it's an open nod to a fan-made theory and another fandom altogether.

Bottom line however is that hatred is stupid regardless of what it is about. And understanding the reasons for it is part of the solution. Otherwise it will just continue on and on. So really, whether that was a shot at myself or not? I should hope it wasn't otherwise you're really not helping as infighting would be just want the good old haters want. After all, if we cannot support ourselves as a community then what hope do we have against those who choose to attack and hate it?

It's easier to hate ourselves for being different than to just be ourselves, and be at ease with ourselves.

How come if I even mention gender roles it's treated as if I'm screaming about them? Or whining about them? It seems that the only way to be interpreted as "not screaming or whining" is to never ever mention it at all. What's room tone for this subject? Because it's not volume 0.

Well, I'm not shouting. I'm using my inside voice. If words about gender are too harsh to hear then maybe some self-examination is in order.

    1. I gave more then a few reasons and I can give more.
    2. Hating on bronies and hating on gays are different, there is no reason to hate on gays wile there is a lot of reasons to hate on bronies.
    3. There is no such thing as a loud minority in this fandom. Most bronies are acting in a way that makes other people hate us.
    4. There some extremists in ISIS, does that mean that everyone in ISIS are extremists? No, but the majority are extremists.

    1. There is more then a few examples.
    2. I would do it and I already do it.
    3. Then you should stop with that,

    1. What has that got to do with anything?
    2. It's still just a some-what decent kid show.

    1. Good for you. Everyone can produce reasons at the drop of the hat. The point is that there are no good reasons for hatred. Absolutely none.
    2. Aha, here's where we are going to fall apart. Those who actively hate on people based on their sexuality, race, religion etc. will claim they have reasons - in their upbringing, their own religious beliefs, the way that a person from that sexuality, race, religion etc. has treated them in the past. That doesn't make those reasons any more valid. But stating there is no reason for X but there is for Y? That's where this all starts to fall apart.
    3. Now that's bull. By refusing to acknowledge the fact that the vast majority of bronies are quiet (ironically for fear of social aggression and hostility toward them) you have pretty much fallen into the same trap. That is pretty much the definition of a vocal minority. Those who are loud enough to be noticed but do not represent us all. Do you have a Rainbow Dash sex doll in your closet? I certainly don't. Do you cover everything in ponies? I certainly don't. But if you believe the few who do then we must all do so, am I right?
    4. Way to ignore the point. ISIS claim to represent Islam. It is an organisation that consists of extremists. However, they are a very vocal minority whose actions conflict directly with the beliefs of the vast majority of the Islamic faith out there. You deciding to ignore the religion in favour of the organisation is akin to believing that the Westboro Baptist Church embodies all of Christianity when they sure as hell don't.

    1. Again, you miss the point of a vocal minority. Let's say you know 100 people. Of those 100 people 60 of them are what you would consider obnoxious, arrogant etc. Yet you do not know the other 100,000 people that comprise the fandom/organisation. You may claim your 60/100 is a fair representation, or you may in fact be looking in an area where these particularly loud examples are more likely to be. If you are seriously decrying all bronies based on a spread from this forum then you are very much doing it wrong. Want a more accurate spread? Go to Steam forums. Go to facebook. Go outside a MLP fandom forum to find an accurate representation. That's like going to a church to find out how many people believe in X faith in a city. Not really a fair spread, since they are all likely to be there in the first place.
    2. Would do and already do what exactly? Discriminate and hate based on race, religion, sexuality and lifestyle? Holy mother of...well now. If that's the case then you're just going to invalidate any further points you make. There is no place for hate here.
    3. Again, a lack of context. Are we trying to be witty after stating that we openly hate and discriminate so. Cute.

    1. Let me give you your own exact words.

What I did was provide an example that actually disproves that statement. We're hardly 'acting' when the creators start actively making nods toward the fandom.

    2. That was never an issue. But in comparison to some other programs and films it is much better quality.

I really have no idea what your problem is, friend. But if you're actively seeking examples of reasons to hate on a forum dedicated the program and fandom in question then you really aren't going about this in the correct way. You don't seek out accurate representation of a minority in a forum that will naturally attract larger numbers of the minority in question. That's like asking how many alligators are in the wild in Florida, going to Busch Gardens, counting 20 of them in a zoo exhibit and working it out to be something like 2 alligators per square metre.

Then claiming that Florida is infested with alligators when in reality their range is restricted by bodies of water and still nowhere near 2 per square metre.

This thread always makes me laugh, I find the fact that this fandom is blind to it's own flaws hilarious. But seriously, it would be great if we could stop calling everyone who dislike us for close minded bigots and act like we're victims in today's society. Every fandom have flaws, including this one. However, other fandoms accept their flaws and tries to improve while we just sit and insults everyone who talks about ours.

    This one is special.

Since many, like, a god-like number of people, hate this fandom just because of...

"Hey b****, you watch a show for little girls?"
We are simply...breaking some rules that it is not even writen. We are breaking the usual.

The number people are against this fandom are even bigger than the fandom itself.
I suggest we should keep doing this to protect the fandom from those narrow-minded people(and haters, too).

I have yet to meet someone who dislike bronies simply because we like a cartoon for little girls. I'm not saying that that sort of people don't exist but I'm saying that they aren't as many as most bronies seems to think. Most of these so called haters dislike us for completely different reasons. Now, what do you mean with "we should keep doing this to protect the fandom"? Shall we just sit and ignore every flaw with this fandom while insulting those who don't?

    1. There exist good reasons to dislike this fandom, whether you like it or not.
    2. I never said that we deserve to be hated, I only said that there is reasons for why we are disliked.
    3. Most bronies act in a way that makes people dislike us. For an example they call everyone who doesn't like them a close minded bigot.
    4. There exist people who fight for ISIS that aren't extremists. Some just wants to fit in and others seeks adventure. Also who are you to say what Christianity is?

    1. I can't hate on the KKK because I don't know every member. I can't hate on the NSDAP because I don't know everyone that was a member. And seeing as most of them are dead that means that no one can ever hate them.
Do you see how flawed that reasoning is? also do you really think that this is the only website I've seen bronies on?
    2. Everyone hates certain people without ever seeing them. I hate every member of the KKK because of their lifestyle, and a lot of people hate the Westboro Baptist Church because of their religious belief.
    3. Maybe it was.

    1. The show is still for little girls. There is a toy in "The Seventh Seal" does that mean the the movie is for little kids?
    2. What the hell kind of programs and films are you watching?

Have you been to other Fandoms? Really? They're all as equally screwed up as eachother. This behaviour here - not accepting flaws, insulting others? - Same for every fandom. And they're not always so private either. Some are very, very public (Shatner and Carrie Fisher anyone?) and spill out of control. We'd all love to come across the Fandom utopia but it simply does not exist. Hell, some Fandom groups actively hate and belittle other groups within the very same Fandom.

Anything produced by the Discovery channel in the past three years, easily.
Three quarters of the tripe produced by the BBC.
Half the tripe produced by ITV.
There is also the whole reality TV genre which tends to be...lacklustre.
Add to that the various 'talent' shows that have cropped up.

Television is truly a sad and tragic place in terms of quality.

I'm been to other fandoms but I haven't seen any fandom be even close to bronies when it comes to ignoring their own flaws or insulting people who dislike us. While other fandoms admit that they have a few flaws, we just call those who dislike us sexist, xenophobes, close minded and so on.
    Oh, you mean like bronies?

If it doesn't hurt anybody who cares?

Have there been bronies who have hurt your feelings? I can't imagine a mob of bronies targeting you for not liking their values, beating you up and taking your stuff. But I can very easily imagine the opposite. Am I delusional? If so, please inform me how.

I could imagine that bronies have hurt your feelings. If so, why don't you share that experience? I am willing to listen.

Since "The community", whatever that actually means, has flaws it can't see, why don't you explain it. I'd like to have a discussion, not a flame war about that. If you're willing to talk, I'm willing to listen. I hope you'll feel the same way.

Yeah bronies can't be evil, only people who don't watch the show are evil.

Bronies are normal humans. They aren't some kind of angels. They can do everything other people can. This include beating you up and taking your stuff.

They have called me a closed minded bigot. That's kind of hurtful.

Bronies think that they are better then normal people. They also think that they're the victim of every single problem. And let's not forget that they think that everyone who doesn't like them are closed mined bigots.

The same thing can be said about those who dislike us. Most of them don't hurt us, so why should we care?

Yes, because watching a cartoon makes it impossible for you to be a bad person. Just kidding, of course a mob of bronies can target you, beat you up and take your stuff. Just like a group of anime fans or whovians can.
No, bronies haven't hurt my feelings but neither has the "haters".
The problem isn't that this fandom can't see it's flaws, the problem is that we just ignore them and says that the reason that people dislike us is because of "sexism", "xenophobia" and other ridiculous things.

    Okay, cool.

Obviously, bronies are humans. All human traits apply to the subset of humans who either call themselves or are called by others "Bronies". That I agree with. There may be slight differences from the main population due to self-selection, but I'll think we can ignore those since we all agree bronies are humans with all the flaws and the rights granted a human being.

I know it's theoretically possible, but I have never heard of a case where bronies have mobbed a person and taken their stuff. Has this actually happened? Because it sounds kind of hilarious. Do you remember that Monty Python sketch where gangs of old ladies were attacking young healthy men? If it has actually occurred that bronies have harassed, beaten up and either taken or destroyed a victim's property, what's the likelihood of it being brony perpetrators versus being a brony victim? The Bronies Documentary showed, one story of a brony victim, but it's hardly a representative sample. I want to know if insurance companies would make more money selling insurance against brony mobs than against mobs attacking bronies. Then again, maybe it's a really rare thing all around. But I'd like evidence to support any statement.

Heimdall, I'm sorry if there have been people who have called you names. I don't agree with name-calling in general as I've experienced my fair share. If you think I have been one of those people, then allow me to apologize. It was never my intention to hurt your feelings, and I hope you can forgive me.

Yamet, Glad to see that. I think you're pretty lucky to live in a place where you can ignore "haters". I also live in a place where there are no real "haters". Though, I may have lost a job once because I mentioned to one of my co-workers that I liked MLP, but the management at the place was already targeting me and the others of my race for termination. They had already made their minds up, they just needed an excuse to do it. There are people who live in areas where expressing their like for this show is dangerous, either from being shamed or being physically assaulted. I think its best that we respect their experiences and admire their courage to be themselves. I remember once wearing a Star Trek uniform to school one day in Middle School. It was one of the worst days of my life. Well, it wasn't the worst. But I remember it vividly. I have never been so ashamed and humiliated for expressing my enjoyment of a TV show as I was that day. And I never wore it again.

I don't know about how all of Bronies feel, but I don't think I'm better than other people. I do believe in myself, and I will defend my point of view as is a human's right. I agree that bronies are no better than other people. Are they worse? If so, why? Can you list the circumstances where they think they are victims? Can you show they are in fact not victims? If you can, I think you'll help a lot of people.

Again, I don't know all bronies. But I don't think someone is a closed-minded bigot for not liking the show. Most people I interact with don't like the show. They are also kind enough to allow me to like the show, to accept me even thought I like a show they don't get, and to even celebrate my weirdness because they know me, not just the label "brony", and they like me for who I am. They don't like the show. I don't think they're bigots. But even if someone was shallow enough to not like me simply for that, it's none of my business. I don't have to talk to them.

So "Sexism" and "Xenophobia" are ridiculous? Okay. I'll accept that. But only if you give reasons. Why is Sexism ridiculous as a reason? Why is Xenophobia ridiculous as a reason? And if they aren't the reason, what is?

Then why do you think that it's impossible for bronies to beat someone up and then take that persons belongings?

You want evidence? Just ask the guy that got robbed last weekend. Can you prove that a brony wouldn't do that? Why wouldn't bronies be able to do that kind of stuff? Because they like the same show you do?

    1. Derpygate. The victim here is the ones that felt that derpy was offensive and became hated because of this.
    2. That time a 4 year old found rule34. The victim here is the 4 year old.
There is more but these are the first one that comes to mind.
This blog post shows that you do.
    http://www.everypony.com/blogs/entry.php?3009-Second-Degree-Bigotry-a-working-theory
Because almost no anti-brony hates bronies because of those reasons. The only reason bronies are so quick with pulling the "xenophobia" and "sexism" cards is because then they don't have to take responsibility for their actions.

Also here is the reasons for why are disliked.

I'd like some evidence that support your statment that bronies won't do such a thing as often as other people would.

This isn't something that is exclusive to bronies. People tease each other about everything, why should we be an exception?

Many bronies think there better than other people because they "break stereotypes" and that sort of bull****. Now, there was that one time that some kid found mlp rule 34 and her mom blamed it on bronies. You know what some bronies did? They blamed the parents and refused to accept that perhaps they were a little guilty.

I'm pretty sure that I said that bronies call those who dislike them close minded bigots, and if you would like proof of that, read this thread again.
There seems to be a misunderstanding. I don't find neither sexism or xenophobia to be ridiculous. But, I do find it ridiculous when bronies claims that sexism and xenophobia is the only reasons why we're disliked. It's just a way to insult those who dislike us instead of accepting the flaws of this fandom. If you would like some real reasons to why we're disliked , go and read @Heimdall post.
