Characters tops, the writing and the good morality and encouragement of the show make me love it~ and of course the amazing, loving, tolerant fanbase <3 that's a HUGE bonus and would add it if I could include four!

My main reason for liking it is the advancement of media in general. I'd love to write screenplays eventually. Should this happen and I develop a fanbase, I'd like to include their opinions and content. This is something Lauren Faust and the rest of the crew did when they learned of their "unique" fanbase. The fans were included and have an indirect inclusion in the show itself. For example, Derpy. As it stands now, the only true interactive media we have at this time is Video Games and we all know what some people think of those. Even if this is a fad, the work it held is still there. Hopefully it inspires other writers to communicate with their fans on a deeper level and give them involvement not just for "kids" shows, but all of TV. I'm tired of seeing cop dramas with twists. TV is stagnant now. Hopefully MLP moves it in a fresher, more interactive position.

Oh ya, and I like Lauren Faust. I've been a long time fan of her work and I'll always support someone successful for my home state... Except athletes.

One reason I like this show because it has elements of shows I watched growing up in the 1990s and early 2000s. I feel a real nostalgic vibe with the characters, plots, and comedy. Plus the songs are very well done for a kid's cartoon.

Voted Animation, Characters, Irony, Comedy, Fanbase creations, Community and To break stereotypes before reading the 3 votes only comment.

    I'd limit it down to:

Animation - I love how animations are much more exaggerated than in most modern cartoons made for television, while still being believable. Often Flash animation appears to limit the movement of the characters, but it's perhaps due to the simplicity of the character designs that the animators were able to counter this, because when watching this show I hardly noticed it has been animated with Flash. I have to add here that I love animated films and have been learning about animation (2d and 3d) before I knew about the show and study multimedia design at college (although animation isn't a main subject here).

Characters - I like the whole mane cast, because each of the characters has a unique personality which has been worked out in the animation as well as in the story, character designs, music and voice acting. Even a character like Rarity, who has a few of the characteristics I usually dislike to see in a character is enjoyable due to the animation, voice work and the fact that she seems a lot more realistic and friendlier (because often the stereotypical fashion girls in films or shows happen to be the mean ones).

Fanbase creations - Actually I went through episodes pretty slowly and instead watched a lot of videos based on the show. It's stuff like that Ponycraft 2 video (which also partially works due to the irony since FiM and SC II are in almost no way, including target audience, comparable), the MLP Fighting game currently in progress, a lot of music remixes and trailers for films using pony clips that make this show stand out for me in comparance to all other shows on tv.

This list could have also included the way in which the developers are involved with the fanbase, because they share a lot of information that for someone like me with an interest in the whole process behind the creation of a cartoon show is gold.

PS: the reason I also voted for irony is that because this show initially stood out from other shows in that it seemed odd for people to take any interest in it, while if people would mention watching a cartoon I'd expect more people from my age to watch I most likely would ignore the cartoon itself (before I started watching this show I only watched films, but no series). I've heard that by watching something "for the irony" some people mean "watching to make fun of how bad something is", however that is not the case for me.

all above (so I won't vote since I like everything equally) and most likely everything that people above me said (yes, I'm too lazy to read whole post and write very long post about it so I'll keep it simple).
MLP:FiM is simply great cartoon you get addicted to. it's simply something you watch and you instantly like it (specially if you regularly like cartoons).
Everything about it is made great.

The three reasons I chose are "Characters", "Fanbase Creations", and "Community".

    Characters
The characters all have their uniqueness, and also their own flaws which they work to overcome. It gives the show a sense of reality which not many other cartoons have, and makes the characters seem that much more believable.

    Fanbase Creations
I like to see all the different things people have made for the MLP fanbase. From art and stories to flash games and plushies, it's really neat to see others' takes on the show through their creations.

    Community
The MLP:FIM fan community is by far one of the most tolerant and friendly I've seen. Need I say more?

So, in the words of a certain Fluttershy... "It's... nice."

I've thought about it since my last post, and I basically go with all of the above also. MLP:FIM is one of the best cartoons I've seen in years and probably one of the funniest shows I've watched to talk about. So much so that I'm on four different forums. I also love to read fanfics. They expand my imagination, give me something exciting to read, and gives me ideas on how I would take the characters to a whole new level. Speaking of characters, each one is very unique to me. Not to mention, we've all meet someone who was like some of the Mane six and I'm a lot like Fluttershy in terms of shyness. I also love the fanbase of this show. I've meet a lot of nice people on this site and beyond. There is one other reason that I like this show, but it's a little dark. Growing up, I didn't really have that many friends. I mean, I knew a lot of people, but very few I actually consider friends. Being on sites like this make me feel like I've missed so much not having true friends. Man. I feel like I need a brony hug...

I voted for the characters, the community, and fanbase creations, although the comedy and animation certainly appeal to me as well.

I think Matt Pony said it really well with his opinion on the characters. They're relatable because they have very human-like strengths and weaknesses, but in a way that the show isn't bogged down by cynicism or an overly realistic representation of people's personalities.

The community is awesome, and Everypony has really made the community one of my favorite parts of the series. Any other forum I've been to, whether it be for video games or music, seems to only be full of people who only want to make people think they're smart, funny, etc. but in the brony community, people legitimately care about each other and want to be helpful.

And fanbase creations has to be on the list, because the My Little Pony Physics Presentation was what made we want to watch the show in the first place.

Try the Dreamkeepers comic, Meletric. Tamest, most open-minded and civil people I've ever met.

Characters: The reason I chose characters is because it diversifies different personalities in different ways. There is the pony that most would consider the most... how do I say it... well, fits the stereotype of the typical MLP genre, which (in my opinion) most focuses on Rarity. The bold move of making Rainbow Dash a tomboy also sparked some... controversy. I don't think I even have to say it. She fits my personality almost to a point. Pinkie Pie is the "Party-Goer" (And I use that term as a huge understatement) of the group, Twilight Sparkle is the "Rational" type, one that makes sense (or tries to) of everything, Fluttershy my favorite...! is the shy personality that some have. She also has a "Dark Side"... And Applejack... I really don't know what to say, honestly, I don't know how to explain her. If anyone could help me with Applejack's personality, I'd like that. :derpe:
It very clearly puts different personalities instead of relying on the stereotype that all Ponies are Girly Fashionistas that want you to brush their hair for them. Which brings me to...

Breaking Stereotypes: Like most of the above, it also breaks the stereotype of the MLP world being PURELY one of Fashion (Hence Above) and Beauty. I've already explained most of it above anyways.

Animation: Growing up in the 90's with top notch animation quality, with great storylines and voices, even great episodes when there wasn't even a plot, this easily compares to most 90's show's. The only really good cartoons that came out in the 00's (In My opinion at least) were Samurai Jack and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; The former was worked on by Lauren Faust as well. Things like the Powerpuff Girls and stuff like Johnny Bravo or Ren and Stimpy need to make a strong comeback. Seeing things come and go is okay, but with the quality of most current shows... it's almost laughable.:Trollestia:

I'm going to approach this question in the same way I approached the opposing question. My personal reasons for liking it, by importance, from most to least:

Once again, the top 3 are the top 3. Setzer, are you reading my mind? :p

#1) Animation: I put this as number one, only because this is the first thing I noticed about the show— its appearance. I'm not going to try to explain in detail because I'm not an animation expert and I don't want to run the risk of sounding like an idiot, so I'll just say I like the animation. I know the animation is not flawless. Some have pointed out some errors such as missing cutie marks, Derpy's eyes (arguably the biggest one), and probably some others I can't think of at this time, but that's probably just an issue with Flash (not the DJ, I'm talking about Adobe Flash). Basically I'm saying it gave a great first impression.

#2) Characters: The characters, especially the mane six, are not one-dimensional. They have a unique personalities (ponynalities?) and have their own strengths and weaknesses and suffer from out-of-character breakdowns/moments that anyone else can. This makes them more realistic and believable. Even some of the one-episode characters exhibit realistic personas (ponysonas?).

#3) Writing: The plot, and I mean the real plot, is great. It isn't dumbed down so much that you feel like your intelligence is being insulted while watching the show. It has issues that many of the viewers can relate to in their own lives.

#4) Comedy: For me, this is a pretty good one. There are many times I find the show funny, either from Spike's sarcasm, or some of the adult references, or just from how some characters behave (especially Pinkie Pie. Although prevalent, she's not the only source of laughter).

#5) Community: This is another big one. The community that's associated with MLP:FiM is by far one of the greatest, if not the greatest, I've ever known. A community of caring, compassionate, tolerant and loving individuals.

#6) Fanbase Creations: This is an extension of #5. Within the community there's a lot of creativity in multiple outlets: writing, art, music, which are comprised of the subcategories of fan-fiction, fanart, comics, original music, remixes, PMVs, and many others. Without #5, these probably wouldn't exist. Although I like fanbase work, depending on what it is, it's not what originally got me interested in the show. It was more of a subsequent interest.

#7) Meme: Although it was thanks to the memetic value of the show that originally caused me to learn of MLP:FiM (I saw some pony macros first), and it was probably thanks to this aforementioned memetic value that we bronies even exist (i.e., /co/ and /b/), it's not what actually made me like the show. Sure, I do like some of the memes, but I think one can still like the memes and still dislike the show, or like the show and dislike the memes. One doesn't necessarily have to like both.

#8) Morality: For me, not really. I do like the morals presented in the show, but that's not something that originally attracted me to it.

#9) Irony: Also a negative on this one. The only thing "ironic" for me I can tell is that my favorite character is pink, and up until now, I've normally hated pink. Not as much anymore though.

#10) To break stereotypes: No, because I typically don't act like a stereotypical anything, so there were no stereotypes to break in my case. Unless I'm misinterpreting the meaning of this. If you mean because the show breaks stereotypes, which I believe it does, then I'd put this a lot higher on the list.

I voted the top 3. Strictly speaking, they're what stand out against all that other baloney on TV nowadays!
