Every time I go to make an OC, I tend to make a list of things I want, then make it in pony creator. I can't draw, and I like to have a visual representation. Yet I've noticed that using Pony Creator to make a cover for a fanfiction or OC will make people not even look at it. Why do so many people hate Pony Creator?
A lot people say they want their OC original. Pony Creator only has the same style like the show itself. Example: This is my OC from using Pony Creator: Here is my original style: See the difference?
People dislike Pony Creator because it's overused, and the OCs made in Pony Creator are usually either generic cookie-cutter OCs or over-designed abominations.
I dislike pony Creator as most people put no thought into it. Look at a wooden toaster he is a recolored vinyl scratch. sent from my phone using Taptalk 2
Most of the people who hate the pony creator are people who are kind of good at drawing and wants to feel better then people who use it.
Agreed. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it but there are many cases where it looks like people just hit the random button. That's not technically a bad thing but there are those who see it as lazy and not creative. Again, those who say that are usually the ones who are more skilled at drawing so it still doesn't make them right. Whichever medium you use, ALL OCs are legit... except for alicorns!!! (HAHA, just kidding XD)
it's overused Its very overused and puts artists commissions down, I like to draw and I do occasional comissons but it will normally not allow other artists to make origonal ocs.. That's what I think
I think people sometimes make their OCs (using Pony Creator) A lot people use their OCs and sometimes ask people to name them. It gets annoying really sometimes.
The Pony Creator can be a useful tool to create a first draft of an OC, but that's pretty much it. However, most people seem to think of it as an "art" creator, which it simply isn't. 1. It's limited. No matter how many options there are, your OC will always be nothing more than a recolor of pre-existing parts. You might as well strike the O from your OC because there's nothing original about it. 2. It's a bit odd looking. Although the Pony Creator tries to mimic the show style, it still always looks slightly off. This is especially noticeable with, well, pretty much every pose except for the regular standing one. An assortment of strange accessories doesn't really help things, either. 3. It's overused. Now, it's not the Pony Creator's fault for being popular among some people, but when you keep seeing the same characters over and over again (see point 1), just with random colors and accessories (see point 2), people will eventually get sick of it. Add to this the number of people who create horrible eyesores by choosing the tackiest color combinations possible and it really doesn't come as a surprise that the Pony Creator doesn't have the best reputation. As to why people won't look at fanfictions if there's a Pony Creator OC on the cover, it may be because those OCs look as if they where made with zero effort, so people will probably think that the author didn't put much effort into the fic, either. It's all about first impressions. In short, you may have better luck simply drawing stick figures.
Exactly. It's not that most people hate the Pony Creator because they want to be elitists, although I'm sure some people do, but not usually. The reason Pony Creator OCs will give a bad impression is because there are so many fanfictions/roleplay characters out there designed or written by 12 year olds who are not exactly as skilled at what they are doing as they may believe they are. They can't draw or they're too lazy, and they make a Pony Creator OC to be a cover for a terribly written fanfiction or to RP awfully on a website, and it happens so often that people now are turned off by the pony creator OCs. To be honest I think you'd be better off with no cover for a fanfiction than a Pony Creator OC.
Something which personally irks me about the Pony Creator is that the model used isn't quite accurate. It's only small things, like the default ear being a slightly wrong shape and the line thicknesses being inconsistent, but it's enough for me to notice! I also find that because the line colours are automated, you do get some peculiar shade combinations, which might be better with a different outline shade, but again, in both cases I'm just being really quite picky.
People seem to pass these sorts of judgements all the time: "I'm tired of seeing it, so I want it gone!" Okay, sure, that's fair, but to some other people it might still be new and fun. Besides, the internet is big enough for all of us to just ignore the stuff we don't have a taste for.
Yeah, it's pretty annoying to see such hatred. It's simply a tool for those of us who can't draw, but would still love to have a MLP OC. To see attitudes such as "Go learn to draw" just isn't right. Drawing is a talent, and it's not one that can be achieved for everyone, whether that be that it's just not a skill we have, or we don't have the time/resources to do it. Yes, it's very limited and no where near as personal as a drawing, but one can't hate it for that, and they should stop hating those who have to use it.
The reason i dont like the pony creator is because it just looks lazy and uninspired. If you cant draw at least try by using templates or tracing. sorry if I i seem harsh its just how i feel =P especially if the OC is an Alicorn.
I personally don't mind Pony Creator...whenever I do OC requests, I ask for those if the requestee can't make hand drawings to get references. To be honest, it would be difficult to make a Pony Creator to make a completely original looking pony, our imaginations are too varied and awesome for all of our ideas to be contained in one program. While the resulting OC's are recolored canon-ponies from the show or "mix-em-ups", it's still the best they make to get the "show-quality look" with the limited style options. People shouldn't hate on that. Also, I should mention that my first OC, Sweet Hoof, was made from a Pony Maker (the one found on the official hasbro MLP site)...I used this as a springboard until I learned to draw the anatomy of a pastel colored pony to my liking. So while the popular Pony Creator is far from perfect, don't just blindly shun the ones who use it. Want them to have an "original" looking OC? Be nice and offer to draw or Vector one for them. Can't draw? Then leave them alone...
