"I'll think about it..." Sarge said, "By the way, since I don't expect to see him any time soon, tell Glory to keep the government in mind... I have a feeling they'll be knocking at y'all's door soon."
"We know, they already have." True Heart said, "One came by here just yesterday, had to forcibly get 'em to leave. They ain't good for these ponies, showin their badges of as if it makes them some dog gone god or somethin, well, have a good day sir." then the sheriff walked off to return to his duties. - - Auto Merge - - As Red approached Red Canyon, he noticed some oddities, massive craters, body parts strewn about the place, dead and near dead ponies in army uniforms laying about. The gruesome scene only got worse the closer to the canyon he got, to a point where that just by walking he had to walk on the bodies of the dead. By the time he reached the canyon mouth, it was clear that the army finally decided to turn back. Up above, he could see cannons now guarded the entrance to the canyon, along with some obviously recently apprehended equipment such as Gatling guns. His second in command soon approached him as he made his way into the actual camp portion of the canyon, "Sir, we baited the army into a full on attack on us, as a test to see the readiness of our army. I think we are ready, we took over tons of equipment, ammunition, and supplies, even some motorized mounts." he said, obviously pleased. "Good, casualties on our side?" Red asked. "Minimal, about 20 that got hit by backfire, snipers, that kind of thing." the second in command replied. "Good, get them assembled, I want to see this for myself."
"An odd sheriff, that was." Cora looked at the ground. "Where are we headed, Sarge?" (Sorry for the absence guys, I was seriously sick.)
(At least you got better.) Red looked at his one time gang, now army, assembled in perfect rows and columns before him. They were wearing the full outfit of a Red Army soldier, and their weapons were holstered on their backs. Red took pride in what he and his lieutenants had created, but now it was time to deploy them, "Alright soldiers, you have likely already been told where you are going, so I will keep this short. Once to your deployment area, stomp out any reported crime, our policy is an eye for an eye. If somepony steals, cut their hoof or horn off. If somepony murders, they will be killed as well, do you understand?" "SIR YES SIR!" "Good, now all but the garrison of the Canyon go to your respective deployment areas immediately!"Red called and the army ran out of the canyon, splitting off from each other once they reached the roads to their destinations.
"Actually," A pony said from behind as two pistols met Sarge and Cora's heads, "You're coming with us." Soon the two were loaded into an automobile that was headed towards Blackwater.
Red strolled into Armadillo, a squad of his army behind him, and walked confidently up to the sheriff, who had four deputies behind him. "Thank you for meeting with me sheriff." Red said with a smirk. "You ain't gonna win Red." the sheriff said with spite, "The law always wins in the end." Red chuckled, "Oh sheriff, you make me laugh. I AM the law around here now. Your just pandering to a corrupt, vile government that not only no longer controls this state, but also doesn't DESERVE to be in this state. The government is gonna be left out of this states affairs. I won't mess with anypony outside the state lines unless they mess with me. If they attack, I burn Blackwater to the ground. How? I have my ways. Now, I'm gonna give you three options sheriff, exile from this fine state, a duel for the town, or you can die right here." The sheriff and the deputies lifted their weapons, "We ain't gonna had this town over to the likes of you Red." the sheriff spite. "That's too bad." Red smiled, lifting up his hoof. "What tha-" The sheriff started before his head exploded from a sniper bullet. Then quick as a flash, the deputies were mowed down. "The state is ours!" Red yelled, lifting up his rifle, followed by yells from his army there.
"What do you bastards want!" Sarge yelled out once he and Cora were shuffled into a room, "I haven't don't nothing!" "Correct you are, Mr. Sargent." An agent pony said as he walked into the room, "But as far as the Public's conserned, you're just another criminal." "I kill criminals, Mister!" "Yes, yes, I know. But stories are easily fabricated. We here do not wish for gunslingers to be glorified. Not at all." "What do you mean?" "We've tainted your reputation is what I mean. Everywhere that isn't New Austin thinks you're a murderous brute. It's nothing personal, we simply wish to modernize the west, and folks like you are in the way." "You son of a-!" "Calm down, my friend. We have proposition." "What the hell is it?!" "Kill Red Glory. Send his gang into chaos, and we promise you life after we've transformed the west." "What if I refuse?!" "Then you die here and now if not later."
Cora sat amongst all of this, a sour taste among her tongue, trying to figure out how the hell she got into this mess. She listened to Sarge talk to these agents, her eyes darting from pony to pony. "And me?" Cora asked. "I am affected by this decision?"
"You have to help him," The agent said to Cora, "Sadly, you associated yourself with him." "She has nothing to do with my work, Mister, just let her go!" Sarge yelled. "It's too late, she already knows too much."
Red looked over the one of the few bridges connecting New Austin to the rest of the country. To the south was another nation across Rio Brazo and to the north were unclimbable cliffs that stretched all the way down the states northern border to the Brazo. "Blow it." he said, looking to the massive pile of dynamite on the bridge. Then in a massive explosions rocked by many smaller ones, the bridge fall into the water, leaving only one more left. "I want triple sercurtity on the last bridge, I want 24/7 constant cannon and sniper overwatch on it and as bristling defenses as possible!" he told those around him. The nodded and then headed south to the last bridge.
"Helpin' it is...." Cora looked at the ponies straightfaced. "You really need to learn 'ow to deal with ponies if you gonna be modern..." She looked away and waited.
"Just do as you're told and this be over quick." The agent said, opening the door for them. "Fine," Sarge replied, "Let's go, Cora."
(Come on, let's revive this thing!) The last bridge across the river between New Austin and Blackwater's area was trapped, spiked, guarded, and overwatched by more guns than you could count before being blown to bits. As Red inspected these defenses, he smiled, if worst came to worst, the whole place would be blown to prevent anypony from recovering the cannons and guns. They would fight to the death here against any invasion against the state, and ensure New Austin's independence.
Cora sneered slightly at the agents as she followed Sargent. "Let's just go kill Red, so this can be over..."
Red looked out across the border river, the river that marked the area between his control, and the government's. Why stop here? he thought, I should drive those all the way to Silver Flat Lake of Blackwater! But that would take time... "How about a little something to distract them?" Red asked himself, and went to find one of his lieutenants, Butch Mane. He was to go take Tall Trees, the natives there will be quite...willing to see the government get kicked out in their favor. Let's see the government attack him while they had an army of natives within striking distance of Blackwater!
"Right." He replied, "This'll be over soon, I'm sure." They began to head back to New Austin when they came upon a destroyed bridge. "Dammit, Red..." He muttered, "No matter, I can fly us over there."
Red saluted Butch as he lead a small unit of his army across the bridge and into Tall Trees, were he was to take in as many natives as he could and make a workable army out of them. Red turned and jumped into the armored truck that he arrived in and took off with the rest of his convoy, which included two Vickers-type machine gun-trucks and two more transport trucks. "Take me back to Armadillo, we've got a lot of work ahead to oversee." Red told the driver.
Once they landed, Sarge was approached by a pegasus carrying a letter. "You Sargeant?" The pony asked. "Who wants to know?" Sarge replied "Just take this letter, I've got work to do." Then, the Pegasus dropped a letter in front of Sarge. He opened it and began to read, then soon learned it was from the G-ponies. It read: "Dear Sargeant, We have recently learned Red Glory was hiding out in Tall Trees, planning something. You can easily dispatch him there. Best of luck, Agent Star" "Well, thank you very much, Mr. Star." He said with a chuckle. (Time for the government to start using Sarge for more the just killing Red!)
