Her cover blown, she tried to breathe in air, her shoulders shaking as she completely broke down. Her sobs were mostly silent, though, the only indication being the slight tremor. "..go to sleep. It's okay."
His frown deepened and he scooted over towards her. He tentatively rubbed her back, as if unsure if he was allowed.
She didn't pull away, and now that he was closer, he would see that her hands were clutched to her chest, as if trying to hold herself together. "...you don't have to comfort me," she said after a moment. "You should go to sleep."
She hugged herself and closed her eyes for a moment. The gesture produced some relief to her, but she was unable to forget that the hug was her own. She was alone in a field, and that comfort was not one she could request from her companion. Especially not now.
He didn't seem too aware of why she was upset, rather more focused on trying to help soothe it, if not fix it completely.
After a few minutes, she turned onto her back, her brows furrowed as she stared up at the branches numbly.
"Unless you wouldn't do it again, Zerras, then I don't think I want to hear it," she replied, although her tone wasn't unkind. It was quiet and exhausted. "That's not a real apology. That's just you asking for forgiveness for something you would do all over again. That's you asking for me to assuage your guilt."
"...I'm not sure why it feels so bad when you turn away from me like that," he said with a frown. "I don't like when you do that."
She blinked a few times, her brow furrowing for a moment. "I don't know why either," she replied after a moment, her voice low. She still wasn't looking at him.
She caught his hand before he left and she looked up at him, her face impossible to leave. "Please don't go."
