She pulled her hair out of the ponytail gently, rolling her shoulders. “The town is so big,” she mused, taking Zerras’ hand.
She leaned her head against his shoulder, her gaze soft as she looked out across the town. “Don’t worry,” she said gently, looking up at him. “We’ll find the key.”
He nodded slightly, his mouth set in a line. The world below was alive. There was music and dancing and drinking.
She was quiet for a moment, her blonde hair falling softly around her face before she looked up at him, giving him a smile. She bumped her head against his shoulder gently. “We’re pretty happy too.”
She tilted her head, considering him for a moment, her brown eyes tracing his features. “I can’t tell if you’re happy or worried,” she admitted with a small laugh.
She shrugged a little, looking across the city. “You’re acting... gentler. As if you think I might break.” She laughed, exhaling a little as she slipped her arm around his waist, leaning against his side. “I can’t tell if that because you’re worrying about something or just if you’re feeling happy.”
He hesitated, pulling his head back to look across the town for a moment. "June," he began, his voice slow and unsteady, "I.." The beginning of his sentence was cut off as a spark shot through the sky and turned into an exploding firework, lighting up the dark.
Her ears fell back and she jumped, panicked by the loud noise. After a few seconds, she saw the colors paint the sky and her whole face lit up in wonder and excitement as she looked up. Her eyes were large pools of bronze that almost matched her ear cuffs, and she stared up at the firework, her ears perked up in awe. "What is that?" she asked breathlessly, looking up at him.
She leaned her head against his side, exhaling slowly as she watched them. "Fireworks," she repeated quietly. "Have you ever seen anything so beautiful in your entire life?"
He was quiet for a moment before pulling her close. He looked down at her, using his free hand to tip her chip to look up at him. "Juniper."
She seemed surprised, blinking a little as her ears fell back in response to the sudden movement. They perked up curiously after a second, though, and she gave him a small, confused smile. "Yes?"
His hand slid to her jaw and he looked conflicted for a moment, his eyes narrow. He shook his head as if letting go of his worries before leaning down to kiss her gently.
