She hesitated for a minute, her eyes soft. “I’m frightened of being left behind,” she admitted. “I’m frightened that I’ve misinterpreted something, or that now that we’ve found all three keys you don’t need me anymore, or... I don’t know.” She shook her head, her ears drooping. “I’m frightened that you’re going to realize that you’d be better off without having to worry about me.”
Her head jerked up and she frowned, shaking her head. “What? No. No, of course not. Just the opposite actually.” She pulled away from him, folding her hands in her lap. “You’ve been kinder to me than I could’ve ever expected. I just... I’m wondering where the catch is, I guess. I don’t want to be naive - I know you think I am, but I try hard not to be. I don’t want to trust such a good thing so easily.”
He seemed a little confused at this, but nodded slowly. "Alright.. I suppose I get where you're coming from."
She laughed a little, opening her arms to him. “It doesn’t make any sense. I’m sorry; let’s just forget it.”
She was face to face with him now, shifting slightly as she settled against him. Her body was slight and soft against him and she studied him, her eyes matching the golden brass of her ear cuffs. Her fingers gently brushed his jaw and her gaze freely roamed his face as she considered him.
He was watching her as well, his gaze curious and relaxed. There was always hint of stoicness about him, his eyes ever so slightly hardened as if the idea of having a stone attitude was hammered into him during his youth. But as he watched her, subdued softness was reflective on his face.
She paused for a moment, her fingers tracing circles on his jawline gently as she considered him. There was a moment of silence before she leaned in and kissed him, the action soft but intentional.
He closed his eyes, his free hand brushing her jaw gently. After a moment he paused. "I have no idea why you like someone like me.."
She listened carefully before dipping her head to place soft kisses along his neck. "I see you differently," she murmured between kisses. "I see who you want to be and I see the changes you've made. I see that you're trying."
She heard his laugh and pulled away slightly, watching him with wide eyes. "You're blushing," she commented, tucking his hair behind his ear.
