She laughed a little, raising one eyebrow. "I recognized you because I had a vision of destruction that showed me your eyes," she said quietly. "That would tip anyone off."
He frowned. "I don't think it would work. Most of the demons were driven out a long time ago by people during the fall of my rule. Because of me. Having me there would be unusual. I would be recognized at some point."
She sighed a little, watching him thoughtfully. "Wouldn't you even consider it?" she asked him softly. "A life where... I don't know. Where you're not always running all the time?"
Eventually they made it. She had likely never seen it before, but it was massive, and stretched in a curve until she could no longer see it in the distance. He went up to it, putting his hand on it with a frown.
She watched it with wide eyes, her brow furrowed as she slipped off her hood. "Whoa... it's amazing..."
"I know," he said, his other hand rubbing his chest as if it ached. "It's designed to be opened by magic users from the inside, otherwise people have to leave through the front gate."
She looked intrigued, approaching the wall and brushing it with her fingertips. "Well... we're magic users, right?"
She looked confused, tilting her head. "Where'd your... uh..." She hesitated, as if she was worried about sounding stupid. "Where did it... go?"
"It was torn from my chest and locked away somewhere," he said, pulling down the collar of his shirt to show her part of a long, trailing scar. "I want to find it."
Her whole face lit up in understanding as she approached him, reaching out to touch the scar in interest before seeming to think better of it. "Oh! Is that... the Hearthstone, then? Or is that something else."
She looked up at the wall, her face falling as quickly as it had lit up. "Oh... I'm not very good at magic, Zerras..."
