He gave a small nod, his violet eyes not as harsh as she would recall when they first met. He worked diligently, his movements firm and smooth as they fixed up the wall. Once they were done he stepped back and brushed his hands off. "Want to start the fire?"
She nodded, scooting over to the firepit as she extended her hands over the pieces of dry lumber. She closed her eyes, finding it was easier to focus that way.
He came over as well, sitting down on his blanket as she lit the fire. It was comforting feeling, having control over something like this, the energy flowing freely as she practiced her skills.
Her eyes opened and a small grin of delight crossed her lips before she could stop it, clearly a little proud. She reached into the flames, focusing as the flames slipped around her fingers. She seemed entranced, turning her hand back and forth as she watched, the light from the fire making her eyes look like pools of honey.
He laid back, pulling the coat tight. After a moment he looked over at her with a small sigh. "It's still a bit light out. You could go make a snowman."
She looked over at him in surprise, pulling her hands out of the flames and folding them in her lap before looking up at the sky. "I could," she mused, standing up. "Are you going to come with?"
He hesitated, looking back at the flames with a frown before standing up with a tilted head. "I could."
She noticed his hesitation before slipping off her yellow coat, going over to him. She placed it over his shoulders before he had a chance to say no, her fingers nimbly securing it around his neck. It smelled like June, and the scent was hard to place. Orange blossom, or maybe honeysuckle. "There. You need to stay warm."
He protested almost immediately after she put it on him, looking down at himself with a frown. "But you need it.."
Her gaze flickered up to him and she gave him a small smile, her dimples exposed as she reached up and pulled the hood over his head. "There isn't a storm that my pink cloak and I haven't handled," she told him. "Plus, I have fire in my hands. Don't worry."
He frowned, still seeming skeptical but heading towards the snow again. "I haven't taught you how to regulate the heat like that."
"Maybe I'm just that good," she replied, following behind him through the snow, her pink cloak billowing back with the wind.
He led her out to the snow and stood by, looking around in the snow as she waited for him to build her snowman, as if it were a task on a to-do list.
She frowned, looking up at him as she began to gather snow in her hands, the powder getting caught in her blonde hair. "Z...? In the books, they roll little balls. Like this." She showed him the snowball she had made and began to roll it. "Do you wanna try?"
He hesitated, the white snow contrasting harshly against his dark hair. He knelt down tentatively. "I can watch."
She squinted, moving over to him and taking his hands, pulling them down to the snow gently and helping him form a snowball, her head bent over their task. Her fingers were soft against his knuckles.
He watched their hands and the snow before squinting up at her. "Did you just make me help you make a snowman?"
She started giggling, giddy from her excitement about their activity. "Yup," she said, moving his hands to make him start rolling the ball.
