Her shoulders hunched and she kept looking down at the ground, hiding her gaze nervously. “I thought I would be able to wait it out... I can wait for daytime...”
“I... I did,” she said tremulously. “I didn’t want to wake you up, Z, you were tired and you needed to rest...”
She sniffled a little, but didn’t say anything, avoiding his gaze as she swiped at her eyes. “I’m sorry...”
She pulled her knees to her chest limply, still avoiding his gaze as she tried to wipe away her tears before he saw them. She gave a quick nod.
She didn’t say anything more, but she shrugged off the blanket, beginning to fold it. Her eyes were red-rimmed and she packed it up, beginning to gather their materials. She moved slowly, her limbs aching in complaint.
She looked up, her mouth forming a small ‘o’ in surprise. “We’re already running late, Zer,” she replied anxiously, continuing to fold the blanket. “I’m okay... I’ll sleep tonight. I don’t want to mess up your plans any more than I already have.”
"My only plan is to get my hearthstone. The only one who might be on a time constraint is you," he said tiredly, eating his food.
She watched him, folding her hands anxiously in her lap. There was a pause before she spoke. “Please don’t be angry,” she said tremulously.
"I'm not," he started, before trailing off with a sigh, "I don't want to be. Just.. Don't do that again."
She splayed her hands, coming over to his side. “I don’t understand why you’re so angry,” she said quietly. “I kept the fire going. I know I woke you up and you had to deal with that, and I am sorry about that, but...” She looked at him, her brow furrowing. “I swear it wasn’t to hurt you...”
"I'm not mad that I woke up," he said with a frown. "I told you I don't want you to die because of me."
“I wasn’t going to die,” she replied, sounding certain. “I was just lost... I didn’t know how to get back, so I needed to wait for the day. I wouldn’t have died.”
She faltered a little with this, watching him nervously. “I don’t remember that,” she allowed, but tentatively took his arm, looking up at him. “I’m sorry, Zerras.”
