Not that I wish to be a the straight pin in your balloon, but people aren't born gay/bi/lesbian.

It's a choice, just like being straight.

Can't say for women, but I don't think it's really a choice. The heart wants what it wants. I don't think I could be gay if I tried because I'm simply not at all sexually interested in the same gender. That's not to say that someone's sexual interests can't change over time.

While I fancy you guys and your supreme intellect on the matter and your poetic belief in following your heart , you had no obligation to. It's not like it forced you to become your orientation, you chose to follow it on your accord. And I'm talking more than sexually, I'm talking about who you want to spend your life with, who you'd want to see everyday you come home and spend your happiest moments.

They are. Its not a choice. You would not know because your not gay/bi/lesbian.

I see it this way: Yes, you choose your own partner(s). Who you are attracted to isn't your choice, at least not on a conscious level.
I think your first comment was worded in a way that could be interpreted as hostile, especially because the statement is often used as an argument against the LGBTQ alphabet soup.

The last point here doesn't make much sense. How does him beingstraight (I presume)invalidate his point? Granted, I disagree with it, but still.

Either way, choice or not, it really shouldn't matter. Aaaaand this blog entry is turning into a second Gay Thread.

Actually He/she is right. You aren't born gay/bi/lesbian. And before you reply to this you should realize, I am not spewing hate, just giving facts. The reason people are gay/bi/lesbian is because they choose to be. You aren't "born that way" at all. The choices you make and your upbringing influence your sexuality.

Is it actually a fact, though? I'd like to see some sources on this. As far as I understood, nobody has found a definitive answer.
Also, there seems to be some confusion about what is meant by the word 'choice'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you say that a person's experiences in life influence their sexuality, are you perhaps talking about something more complicated than a conscious choice? Because there is a great different between your enviroment affecting who you become as a person, and suddenly telling yourself: "Hey, I'm going to only be attracted to women now!"

This was an interesting read and I have these things to say:
1. My stance in the whole nature versus nurture thing is largely summed by this, and yet at the same time it makes me evaluate my choice of words when talking about this thing.
2. Its definition of 'being gay' is very different from what I usually associate with the word. I think a lot of people assume that when you talk about 'gay people', you mean 'people who engage in sexual and/or romantic acts with primarily people of their own gender' and not simply 'people who have an attraction to primarily people of their own gender'.

Id like do agree with the main jist of this, there isnt substantial scientific proof (which is all i care for nowadays) for either side of the fight.
