I think it was great. I liked hos they crossed it with The Powerpuff girls, and some other CN and HUB cartoons. Animation is fantastic, and story follows pretty good. overall 5/5 btw: @Mods: don't you think this thread should be merged with this : http://www.everypony.com/forums/showthread.php?10184-Double-Rainboom-Official-Trailer-Release-Date/ thread?
I thought it was just as epic as it was billed to be! I like how she basically crossed over into the next channel. Plus all of the subtle references were funny. And a PPG crossover? Well... Also, being a musician, I REALLY enjoyed the score!
Uh well... I try not to be overly critical on fan projects, especially when they obviously had so much effort put into. Still, I didn't think it lived up to the hype. Sure, the animation was pretty good (though it's debatable if the promise of 100% show accuracy was delivered on). Some scenes looked great even, while others... not so much (the intro couldn't have possibly been more bland if it tried). As for the story, I thought it was lacking, the pacing was off and the whole thing felt way too long for it's own good (and I'm not even going to comment on the crossover part). And the letter to Celestia felt tacked on, as if the film made a final desperate attempt to add a bit of reason to all the randomness that had happened... and even that didn't really work. Rainbow Dash's egoistical actions just leveled Ponyville. Why is she talking about "taking things that don't belong to you"? I don't get it. The closing credits were pretty neat, though. So yeah. That's not to say I didn't like it at all, and as a fan animation project, it was pretty impressive. But... as a fan episode that strived for 100% accuracy, it just fell flat in my opinion.
I thought that the voice acting was okay, the animation awesome, but the overall storyline was lacking. I mean, when I watched this, I was wanting pony, not a nostaglia trip down childhood lane. I did, however, find a version of it that was edited to be faster and clean up so parts:
I did but just so you know Diabettusdragon and the other four members of this group that I created are also fans of LPS. http://www.everypony.com/forums/group.php?groupid=146
I though it was awesome, though I have to admit, Snowdrop was better... (Btw, what's your signature from Winter Snow? Is it an actual video?)
That...was ....AWESOME That fan-made episode made me smile. And I really like the crossover with Powerpuff Girls.
Absolutely horrid. Dreadful. I hated this with a passion. References to other shows and crossovers do /not/ a good episode make. I think the worst thing about this is, like Snowdrop, people on Youtube and EqD will blindly praise this to hell and back. So like /mlp/ has said, it’s gonna lower the bar and the next big pony thing will be worse, but still get praise. Eventually any good fanworks will be lost in a ocean of stupidy. This was an absolutely horrid mess of something that was clearly overhyped and had clear faults in it that I seriously just don't understand how people overlook the flaws of: Terrible storywriting kept getting more and more away from the beginning and then had a horrible wrapup, putting Powerpuff Girls in a semi-negative light, the episode had such random pacing that I became completely lost halfway through, it had poor quality animation (Though I will admit with what they had, it was decent. 7.5/10 there) and poor sound quality in some parts. The potion was so OP it hurt. WAY too many fan things slammed in every chance they got. RD's voice. She destroyed the town and did nothing to fix it. Not to mention... this. Spoiler: Internet References? Really? Did this really need to happen? The only good (And even then, still below standard) part of this was the Voice Acting (Except RD's) and the animation (Which was still subpar, but given what they had, it was probably the best they could do.) Fan project does NOT excuse poor quality. People will praise this because it has references to PPG and the internet, and that's about all it is. It felt so rehashed and overdone that I couldn't help but shake my head. I thought this was horrible. I'm sorry. 3/10.
Guy above me is hater. That was AWESOME! PPG reference was awesome, I almost died when Pinkie pulled out Bloo at the end. Loved it.
I guess you can't please everypony. For every 50 people who liked it, you'll get maybe one or two who thought it was drek. Personally, I loved the hell out of it! Especially since the crew were using limited resources. Also, Kira Buckland plays Sparky again!!
You're absolutely right DD my friend while you can please some people you can't please all of them a perfect example of this is Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.
Of course you can't please everyone. Why would you even want to try to please everyone? It's the key to failure.
And that's why I disliked it so much, Bot-chan. It felt like it was trying way too hard (And this is an understatement) to try and get people to care about the episode by forcing the Nostalgia Goggles on them. Take away the references to other cartoons and the internet, and you get a bland and mediocre, overdone episode that would not be receiving so much praise as it gets now, but this is just my opinion. Though also an educated guess. It just relies too much on gimmicks that you can just go find in your average YouTube Poop or something like that in a crossover. It could have been so much more than this, but instead it was just fanservice, when we asked clearly for a quality product. Does my standpoint make more sense now?
Oh, but did he really try to please everyone? When he showed his first animatic, people were worried that the film would be full of memes, and looking at the final product... well, he didn't really try to please those people. The way I see it, this film was an animation project that he needed to do to graduate from college. And as far as the animation goes, I guess it worked. There were some really nice parts in a few different styles. And that's basically it. An animation made by an animator. Not by a story-writer or... well, whatever. And unless you are a member of the college he wanted to graduate from, I don't really see how you'd be in a position to ask for a quality product. I still understand you, in a way. I'm not a big fan of this film, either (for many of the reasons you listed), but my disappointment in this animation stems from the fact that, during all his trailers, Mr. Rich took himself and his project so ridiculously seriously. I mean, he could have gotten away with just saying: "Hey, I have to make an animation to graduate from my college and I'll cram it full of random stuff I like" and people would have probably been okay with this. Instead, he tried to hype the project to make it appear more meaningful than it really was. 100% show accurate animation? Yeah, we didn't really get that. A fan-made episode? We didn't get that either, at least not in the sense of: "Hey, this really could have happened in the show (if fans were allowed to run it)." And all this talk about not wanting to release an inferior product? Teaming up with someone able to write a decent story really would have helped in that regard. I'm not disappointed because I demanded a quality product. I'm disappointed because he made a lot of promises he couldn't deliver. At least in my opinion. So yeah, it wasn't a very good episode, fan-made or not. But as an animation project, it really wasn't that bad.
Oh, I am happy for it. That doesn't mean I have to love every single thing indiscriminately. Can't you have a differing opinion anymore without being called a hater?
