Now let me first say I reserve the right to change my mind once more episode have aired. That said I call the show a flop, in so much as it's name. It's not MacGyver.

It's a secert agent show. In the first few minute Mac is intoducing his teammates and he talk about having sex with the female team member. Call me old fashioned, but that's just not MacGyver. He did plenty of macgyvering, but his personality just did not fit Mac properly. The pace of the show and the story didn't fit Macgyver. I'm not saying it wasn't a good show, but it didn't live up to it's name.

So anyone else watch the reboot? The first episode is online at the official website:

It's not a direct reboot, there are some elements in it that resemble to original show (Mac not shooting people, Dalton being a borderline con man, etc) it was never meant to replace the original Macgyver, it suffers from what I like to call "Modern Cultural Dissonance" prescribing new societal mores on a show designed in another era. In this instance nostalgia works against it. That said, if you forget the original and never associate it with this show you find a show that's kind of fun and better than some garbage on TV these days.

Wow I missed this topic actually got a reply. I've watched every episode so far and yeah, just as you said so long as you don't try to connect it to the original it's not a bad show. It's by no means Macguyver, but it's not bad. You can tell it has some inspiration from Macguyver, but it's it own show. I just kind of wish if they were going to make it it's own show have him play RDA's kid instead a of poor reboot.
