Warning: Content viewed hereafter could potentially be a spoiler. If you haven't seen season seven of Adventure Time yet, do not continue until you do so. You have been warned. So, has anyone else been following the show? I've been a devoted fan of AT since episode one. It was just something about the design and the story that kept me coming back for more. For anyone reading this who hasn't yet seen the show, here's a short bio of what it's about. As yet another warning for content spoilers, if you haven't watched the show or season seven yet, specifically up to episode thirteen, please do not continue reading. So, season seven started off just after the events of the season six finale. It started with the same strange shenanigans as most others. Though in episode two we get to see a Marceline and PB team up. It's happened before and I thought it was really cool to see it again. PB and Marceline are best friends and I thought their relationship should be explored more. About three more episodes of shenanigans and then we hit something new. What most have dubbed "Marceline's Spinoff" began airing. The story arc is titled Stakes. The arc is a mix up between Marceline's backstory and a grave threat in her present. Throughout the arc we get a glimpse at her past, the things she's been through, something I thought was well overdue. Instead of focusing on Finn and Jake, the show changes it's focus to Marceline and Princess Bubblegum. So many things were explored in this arc. New light was shed on Marceline's vampirical powers and how she became a vampire in the first place. I have to say, by far, this story arc has been the most appealing. It wasn't just random. It had so many things packed together that, after finishing it, I got a feeling of content. While the ending was a bit of a cop out, I feel like it couldn't have ended any other way. I also feel like I wouldn't have wanted it to. The whole thing was very well written, amazingly animated, and perfectly executed. In the end, I was left with a want for more. I'd personally like to see a permanent spin off series of the show. One that maintains focus on the adventures of Marceline and PB. I feel as though the two could run side by side and cover a lot more details for the various characters and situations. What are your thoughts on the latest AT arc? Would you like to see a permanent spin off series? Did the backstory change the way you see the show and Marceline? -Nights
I was quite impressed by the series. It had the perfect mix of drama, humor, and AT's trademark weirdness. What's impressed me most about the seventh season has been the apparent switch from an episodic format to a more serialized format.
That's another thing I've been enjoying. Typically the show will go on maybe two or three episodes with the same arc and then go to something completely different. While every episode this season hasn't exactly been all about the same thing, the events and plot points within the episodes carry on from where the last left off. I'd really like to see the show carry on in this way. It doesn't seem to have any issue keeping it's weirdness about it. I do have to say that season six was pretty good about keeping the theme about the comet. It wasn't exactly serialized but they all had a mostly running theme. -Nights
I'm loving the Stakes saga!!! I've been with the show since about the 4th season and have been a devoted Marceline fan ever since!!! The Empress was a really awesome looking villain too!! Even more so than the Vampire King!!
Agreed. Out of the lot of them, her character design was my favorite. After her, I really liked the fool. I'm not really sure why. He was just a little goofy character that was gone in a poof. Another thing about the characters that I noticed as they were being introduced is that a good portion of the vampires share names with tarot cards. I can only assume this was intentional as the coincidence of several being the same are unlikely. I found it gave more of a depth to the characters to have a connection to the mystic arts in reality as well as in the show. It was a cool little tidbit I picked up on as I was watching. "Kitty!" I swear if I could just relive the joy of that moment 100 more times, it still wouldn't be enough. It was just too adorable. -Nights
