So, recently I finally got around to finishing Firefly, both the show and the movie known as "Serenity". For those of you who don't know what Firefly is, it was a short-lived tv show that had followed the Space Western genre. It was also written and directed by the famous Joss Whedon, the man resbonsible for shows and movies such as "Buffy the vampire slayer" and the recent "The Avengers" film. It was canceled after 14 episodes, but it gained enough of a cult following and enough DVD sales to where Universal was able to make a movie to tie up the loose ends and awnser a few questions. So, anyone here a fan of Firefly? What did you think of the movie?
Firefly was great when watched in order. Fox used this show to create the "Friday Night Death Time Slot". A shame really, Joss Whedon was at the top of his game when he created it. I am glad they got the movie so they could at least wrap up the story line. Sent from my EVO 4G Shift using Tapatalk 2
Firefly is why I love Nathan Fillion. The script of that show was so expertly written. I mourn the loss of its perfect blend of comedy and seriousness. The acting in it was great and the theme and plot had so much more. There's been talks of making several more episodes or restarting the series. The pilot of the ship's death wasn't wholly confirmed the actor said. I'm praying. I like Castle, but I'd rather see Firefly going again.
This should be in Movie/TV area, so I'm going to move it there. But yes, you're right. Firefly was an awesome show. WHY DID IT HAVE TO GET CANCELLED? T-T
Uh, Oppsie dasiy then. I can't seem to find that area on this fourm, so I figured that the best place was the General disscussion. My bad. And when it comes to the Netflix rumors: That would be pretty freaking awesome, but I don't wanna get my hopes up. Plus, with how the movie ended and the changes that happened in the movie, it's gonna be hard to keep the series going IMO.
Over-rated. Good, but terribly over-rated. Granted, it was far better 14 episodes in than any of Whedon's other excellent shows, so it had the potential to be his best show yet (although, given how epic Buffy was, I doubt he could ever make anything to top that modern classic). Still, I don't get why people obsess over it. It had a decent set-up and interesting characters, and that's about it. Maybe I just don't get the appeal of the whole space western concept. LOVE that opening theme, though.
Because it's unfinished. This leaves lots of room for speculation. Viewers can use their imagination without limits and this makes the show more intimate to them.
For me it was more about the characters. I wanted to know more about them. The way they interacted with each other, being in a confined space on the ship. Each one of them had a unique personality and their own quirks. For a show to have that many people on it that you care about is very, very rare these days. I've given lots of TV a chance and if there isn't something interesting about the characters, I lose interest quickly. The space western aspect of it was just a nice little twist to be able to create a more diverse universe and enable more plot lines. I could ramble on more, but I'll stop now.
Guess what I got for my birthday yesterday? The Firefly DVD's and the Serenity two-disc collectors edition! Yay!
