I just watched a video of Angry Joe going on an 18 minute rant about how his videos keep getting ridiculously flagged for fake copyright claims. I can't link it here due to heavy swearing, but yeah, look it up.

If you consider legitimate criticisms to be "flak", then I guess you're right.

    @Rarit E
Just watched it...yeah, he's pretty pissed. Justifiably so, I'd say - honest reviews should be fully covered under Fair Use, but game companies apparently don't see it the same way. Somehow I get the feeling that they leave alone the folks who give their lousy games positive reviews, but go all Johnny Law on those who trash them. I can't prove that, of course, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I couldn't agree more. I hate all of these changes (I'm getting used to Google+, though) and it's hard for me to even to find my inbox! But I can't stop going on YouTube.

That happened with day one garry's incident and total biscuit. TB just destroys this game because it was just awful and the company claimed a copyright claim to it. They removed his video but left all the other videos about their game there. I believe it had to do with him calling it crap and the fact that by searching his was the first video to show up. So it looked bad on the company, so just copyright claim it and problem solved. The video is back up though, they sorted it all out, but that's an example.

Youtube has a automated copyright thing like tumblr, you don't even have to be the original copyright owner to make a claim. So it could just be a bunch of jerks who dislike his channel and trying to remove it. Or it could be the content awareness thing, I've heard a few people are already getting hit with it on there channels.

I find that a lot of LPers that have a ton of subs to be that kind to scream and yell=comedy gold. I used to watch a ton of LPers and right now I'm down to like 5 I think. I watch them because they make me laugh and such, some of them like one F Jef usually play games that I end up buying myself.

Game Theory had a video on how pewdiepie was able to get so famous. According to the video, youtube takes the amount of view minutes they get and based on some kind of math they start promoting that channel. So it gets more views and view minutes, so it then gets more promotion. So small channels get screwed and the big ones just keep getting pushed to the top.

You should check out cr1tikal's video about the youtube changes, can't link cause of his potty mouth and such. Search it yo.

All I'm going to say about this is that if you make your ENTIRE living off of youtube with absolutely nothing to fall back on, than you're an idiot who deserves to have all your ads taken away. This whole anti-monetization scheme is something that's so completely obvious we all should have seen it coming. Being that that's the case, it occurs to me that the ones who are going to complain the loudest about this are the self-important, narcissistic nitwits who think that having a few thousand subs entitles them to special treatment. It doesn't. Either accept that you can't make money on this stuff and continue to do videos anyway (as I'm sure a lot of people will), or quit and prove to everyone that you were never a real gamer to begin with.

Something tells me you don't quite realize how much time and effort goes into some people's videos. Angry Joe admitted to putting more hours into working on his videos per week than the average person puts into a full-time job (usually 40 hr/wk). If uploaders like him worked other jobs on the side, it would be literally impossible for them to continue producing their shows on the level they do. Editing videos for 9+ hours a day isn't exactly the easiest task in the world, and I submit that it's just as much deserving of an honest wage as any so-called "real" job, provided no laws are broken. And in all technicality, reviewers are well within their legal rights to use footage of the media they review.

Companies are only being successful in coercing YT to match people's videos because YT doesn't want to deal with the threat of being to taken to court over any instances of quote/unquote "infringement", so they cave. Bottom line, it isn't right what's going on any way you look at it - not from a legal viewpoint, not from a logical viewpoint, and certainly not from an ethical viewpoint. Hard work deserves pay, and to doubt the hard work that goes into the 'Internetainment' industry is nothing less than a fallacy.

I see nothing wrong with making a living off YouTube. It's just like being an artist in a way, the only problem is that the world doesn't want people to be self employed. These youtubers put more then the average workers hours amount of time into videos for a lot less then the deserve. If someone has 500,000 subs and they get 250,000 views per video and of those 250,000 half Of them have as block on they get basically 125,000 views. Then even after that YouTube takes 45% of the ad revenue.

There are some people like cr1tikal who use all their ad revenue to donate to charity. I have no idea if he'll even continue if they remove his option to have ads on his videos.

Your final line about being a "real gamer" is kinda laughable in a way. Like that term isn't even real. It has no real meaning besides what the person using it considers it be.

All I meant was that in the last few days, there have been quite a few people who say "if I can't make money on my videos, I won't do them" and that seems like a terrible attitude to me because it implies that they care more about making money than they do about gaming. If you can't make money on gaming videos, do videos about something else that you can monetize and if all your subscribers go away, than they're wrong for doing so. It goes both ways. And everyone is missing the main point that youtube isn't going to disallow gaming videos. You can still do let's plays or whatever, you just can't make money on them anymore so it seems to me that the ones who accept this and keep making videos just because they want to are more "real" than the folks who claim to be gamers but only care about making money from them. When this whole thing blows over (and it will), the true gamers will be the only ones left and I feel that the youtube gaming community will be stronger for it. Just my opinion.

These youtubers usually only have youtube as a source of income since they've quit their previous job. So youtube is there job and when the boss just comes out and says that they can no longer make money it is a kind of a concern. This has nothin to do with "real gamers".

YouTube needs to get its $4!7 together. I mean seriously. If it doesn't we need someone to make a new website for video streaming that everyone can enjoy.

I really wish there was a viable alternative to YouTube but I cant think of one without a horrible layout or an undesirable company in charge of it.
As long as YouTube's profits go up, there's no reason to listen to users :DFH:
