This is a film I think is so much fun. Imagine a chinese martial arts movie with the usual over the top battles and wirework. Now imagine they tried to add some CGI to the mix. Oh! And almost every fighter on screen is 40+ years old. Oh! And they appear to be channelling Popeye for most of the film.

That might sound absolutely horrible but I think it works fantastically. Any CGI used is there to exaggerate the abilities of the characters, making them seem not only more powerful but supernatural as well. They make these otherwise rather unimpressive looking people into, well...Cartoons. The Tex Avery inspired design of some of the special effects is subtle enough not to be too in your face. It's obvious but aids the story.

As for the story? Well, it manages to have a little emotional core. It's barely mentioned but it's not in the way of anything so I'm happy for it to be there. It also fuels the main character's redemption from git to kung fu saint.

But the fights are what you stay for and they're well choreographed set pieces were the director is able to turn these old men and women into Super Saiyan Loonie Tunes.

It's a fun movie. But, what do you guys think?

    9/10 for the comedy alone.

I got this one. 'Tis exactly as described above, a live-action martial arts Tex Avery cartoon. Still, could've been a bit better.
    7/10

For comedy martial arts movies it is impossible to beat Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. If you haven't seen it, do so. Immediately. There's a kung-fu cow and everything.
