I have no strong feelings about them one way or the other. They could do much better as a company, but that doesn't mean i outright hate or even dislike them.

But none of you would care if they went third party.

. . . Can I smack him a good one, Rarit E? I feel like we're dropped into circular reasoning and I can only take so much of it from anyone.

If it meant better and more games, the thought of buying a Wii U actually becomes feasible.

Honestly, I don't think ONE bad console gen is going to kill Nintendo, especially after coming off the Wii and DS, both of which were insanely profitable. Hell, it took Sega several consecutive failures to go third party.

It's like you're not even paying attention anymore.

A nice list of problems of the Wii U that I'm ripping from someone else and another person's response

    • tiny disk sizes, half that of ps4 and xbox one
    • marketed and designed to look like an add-on
    • lacks a blu-ray player
    • online downloads aren't connected to an account, instead to the system itself
    • previous third parties were alienated by nintendo on all previous generations besides NES
    • the only first party launch was super mario bros u
    • the Wii U launched almost a during a time when the competition was already making a killing (think of all the great games that launched for the ps3 and 360 about the time the wii u launched)
    • Much weaker graphics, incapable of running next gen multiplatforms
    • Lack of Vision on how to utilize the gamepad in games
    • Stuck in a loop where Developers don't want to invest time and money into making games for it because of the small user base. And consumers don't want to invest into a game console with very little games.
    • A lack of online multiplayer games
    • Incompetently handling the Virtual Console
    • Region Locking
    • Online infrastructure is very weak. No voice chat, party chat, etc
    • Lacks games in a lot of genres
    • Still uses Wiimotes for local multiplayer
    • terribly organized and slow user interface
    • limited multimedia capability
    • Almost all announced 1st Party Titles in development don't have solid release dates yet
    • Much weaker graphics, incapable of running next gen multiplats
The Wii U has graphic parity to that of the PS3 and 360 and we are still developing for those systems so this doesn't really matter much at the moment. Maybe in the future it will matter but for now nobody really cares. The Wii U is pretty powerful and much easier to develop for than the PS3 (for example).

    • Lack of Vision on how to utilize the gamepad in games
The gamepad is a nice idea but a very expensive no optional "extra" and offers little in added experience to be honest. Also nobody wants to put in that much effort for something only a small number of users will have so it is catch 22 to devs. I quite enjoy working with it but I am given next to no time to actually do anything fun with it as it just isn't cost effective.

    • Stuck in a loop where Developers don't want to invest time and money into making games for it because of the small user base. And consumers don't want to invest into a game console with very little games.
Yup. Especially for Wii U specific things like the gamepad as just mentioned.

    • A lack of online multiplayer games
Online from Nintendo is fracking awful. Seriously I had a better experience with the Dreamcast and its broadband adapter than Nintendo Network. Ugh.

    • Incompetently handling the Virtual Console
I know of publishers who would LOVE to get their older titles out on the VC but Nintendo is dead set against it. Sucks as the emulation solutions we have for older consoles (N64 and earlier) are damn near perfect on Power PC (Wii U architecture)

    • Region Locking
Studios/publishes like region locking still (old view IMHO) but it isn't really something that end users care or even know about it most cases. It is rather pointless though as it just gets in the way for those that want to play import games and is mostly solved by digital services (in that we can release per country to have even more control than per region)

    • Online infrastructure is very weak. No voice chat, party chat, etc
Already covered but I will say it again. Nintendo network sucks in every possible way.

    • Lacks games in a lot of genres
This will solve itself over time but it lacked solid launch titles.

    • Still uses Wiimotes for local multiplayer
This causes so much confusion for end users. "So I need a Wii controller for my Wii U? Can I play Wii U games on my Wii then?" ! They should have made the Wii U Pro Controller the main controller IMHO. That controller is LOVELY!

    • terribly organized and slow user interface
I have no idea why their UI is so awful. You are right tho it sucks.

    • limited multimedia capability
Not something we care too much about.

    • Almost all announced 1st Party Titles in development don't have solid release dates yet
Yeah Nintendo really need to get their together and put some solid release dates in place for SSB etc. We will no doubt have to wait until E3 to hear anything :(
The Dreamcast didn't fail because of 3rd party, it failed because each machine sold cost the company money that they hoped could have been offset by selling more games, which didn't work because people found out a neat little trick to unlock every game.

Where did you get those problems and the response?
