I wish you the best of luck in this venture. As for me? I have cynophobia, and an extreme aversion to lotion. (Don’t ask) So I’m still hoping to make the right choice when the time comes.
I have quite a few quotes that I have bouncing around my head that I'd like to share. Forgive me if I don't remember some of the names, it gets a little hazy sometimes. Lets start with one you've seen me use before: "Dont frown because it's over, smile because it happened" -Dr. Seuss I like this quote a lot and Ive used it on many occasions. A lot of people say to let go of the past after a hard time or a grudge or something else along those lines but you see I think that's a stupid way to go about life. Why would we have to go through such hardships if there wasn't anything to gain from it? Not just physical either but mentally and emotionally. What happens to us and what we do shape who we are as people and I believe that each and every experience, even the small ones, are like the strikes of a chisel against against marble to form a bust of ourselves. "Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent." -Joe pellitier This is something I was told time and time again in ROTC be it during drill practice, physical training, or just tying my shoes in class, my flight leader would tell me this time and time again and it started to sink in my head over time. This is another case of what we do defines who we are. I believe that if you want to be good at something there's nothing stopping you from being good at it. Yes, there is a thing as natural skill and it's hard to come by but what I respect most is the people who can go through that godawful startup for just about anything and stay with it, because as you go along and start anything, you're going to be bad regardless but it's the habits you pick up while doing these things that eventually make you better, these things don't make you perfect at it, they're just habits, they're permanent. "Difficulty breeds excellence" -Unknown I love this quote. It goes hand in hand with the previous two as well. But first let me explain why I love it so much. As some of you know this year I joined Cross Country as a means to become a better runner. Before I was only able to run 2 miles at my limit. Now I can easily run 11+. Why? Because I decided to throw myself into something that I could barely handle as a means of improving myself. Now back to the point. What I like about this is that if you go ahead and challenge yourself in life, yeah, it'll be tough, but you'll learn from the experience and therefore become great at what you do. I'm done now, please excuse any typos as im on my iPod at the moment.
Wow. I'm starting to notice a few connections here. "Only through trials to we find the strength we need" - Unknown Has anypony else noticed just how much this point has been made? So many quotes, so many beliefs, it's more then just coincidence. This is one of the most reappearing thoughts that I have ever seen. For instance, if you look back to nearly ANY successful warrior class of ANY successful civilization in ANY timeframe, you will find that rule one of whatever code for living they use will always be something along the lines of “Defend those who cannot defend themselves, even at cost to yourself.” I think that this trait is looked for so much because (as I stated earlier) it is not only the just thing to do, but it is also the opposite of human nature. Any thoughts?
Nice, this is another recurring theory. Another example of this: “Disappointment is a sort of bankruptcy - the bankruptcy of a soul that expends too much in hope and expectation.” – Eric Hoffer
"Never say never ever." "Some people live more in twenty years than others do in eighty. It's not the time that matters, it's the person." "Just remember, music isn’t just orchestras and pop stars and special people with albums and downloads and concerts, it’s you. Because the music of the spheres is all around you. When you’re on your own, just close your eyes, and you’ll hear it. Music. Inside your head. ‘Cause everyone’s a musician. Everyone’s got a song inside them. Every single one of you." "The way I see it, life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant." "The universe is big, it's vast and complicated and... ridiculous, and sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles." "Nothing is ever forgotten, not completely. And if something can be remembered, it can come back." Look at me, getting philosophy from TV shows, haha.
"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering." "Courage isn't just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway." "People spend all their time making nice things and then other people come along and break them." "Life depends on change, and renewal." "As we learn about each other, so we learn about ourselves" "For some people, small, beautiful events is what life is all about!" "What's the use of a good quotation if you can't change it?" "Every dogma has its day" "Love has never been noted for its rationality." "I love humans. Always seeing patterns in things that aren't there." "Think you've seen it all? Think again." "I'm old enough to know that a longer life isn't always a better one. In the end, you just get tired; tired of the struggle, tired of losing everyone that matters to you, tired of watching everything you love turn to dust. If you live long enough, Lazarus, the only certainty left is that you'll end up alone." "I have a thing. It's like a plan, but with more greatness." "It's a coincidence! It happens! It's what the universe does for… fun." "You’ve got a lot to look forward to you know: a normal human life on Earth. Mortgage repayments, the 9 to 5, a persistent nagging sense of spiritual emptiness. Save the tears for later boyo." "You know, when I was little like you, I dreamt of the stars. I think it’s fair to say, in the language of your age, that I lived my dream. I owned the stage. Gave it a hundred and ten percent. I hope you have as much fun as I did, Alfie." "Some days are so, so blessed." "Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair and the Doctor comes to call, everybody lives."
Doctor Who quotes!!! You are my new very special extra best friend. Greatest Doctor Who quote ever: "Rule one; the Doctor lies." Back to philosophy, I tend to think that that quote can also be taken as: "Rule one; humans lie."
Haha, thanks. Also, the ones you didn't quote are also from Doctor Who-- just from the Original Series.
See I've always found the quote "Never say never" just plain silly because in a literal sense it's a contradiction, but that's the point here. There's never any extremes in life, if you try to say something never happens it's usually wrong (Excuse the contradiction right there, you get my point). "The exception proves the rule" If you actually have to look for something to disprove something, odds are the rule is almost always right.
I disagree, If you have to look for something to disprove something, then you obviously believe that it is NOT right. And if you look for something to disprove something and you FIND something that disproves something, then it IS not right. See what I mean? (sorry for all the "something"'s, I couldn't find a better way to word it.)
Well if you can find something to disprove it, then yeah you'll find the exception, but in the same sense the search for the exception will prove that the rule is correct most of the time because one had to search to find it. Extremes are an interesting topic because they do in fact exist because if there are no extremes, then that fact wouldn't be true would it?
That is a loophole that is fantasticaly used and abused. It's one of those factors that makes life fun!
The RP, it's a 40k reff. reasoning, Peace cannot exist without war, because if there was no war on earth then it would be just called life.
