So Archie Comics has been turned into a drama called Riverdale. I'm not even half way through the first episode and I'm annoyed as heck. I get that you have to change things for Television I get that maybe they were going to mess with the diversity a bit, but Josie and the Pussycats. Josie is supposed to be a redhead, Monica a stereo typical blonde, and Val is a black girl. Being a redhead myself I hate it when redhead characters aren't portrayed by redheads. They made all three members of the Pussycat's black. What the bloody hell? They turned Josie and the Pussycats into Desitiny's Child? Edit #1: Spoiler Archie had sex with Grundy. Okay granted they made her young, but bloody hell those that know the Archie comics are going to picture Archie with comic Grundy. Edit #2 Spoiler Veronica and Betty have a kiss in an attempt to become cheerleaders.... Again what the Bloody Hell. The only reason I keep putting my self though this torture is I want to see what they did to Jughead, but it's almost not worth it. Edit #3 So I forced my self to sit through the entire first episode. It was not Archie from the comics it was a drama where they gave people the names of Archie comic book characters. Sadly... I'm going to force my self to watch more cause Jughead wasn't in it enough to me to gauge if he can be a redeeming factor in the show.
What the actual f**k. I was actually really looking forward to this, but now that I've read what they've done to it, I'm not even gonna bother.
I was too. When I saw the preview I was worried they were going to turn it into Twin Peaks, now I don't know what they've turned it into, but it's not Archie.
I saw a bit of the movie a while ago and was disgusted by it. I will stay away from this. Yeah, I'm a big fan of Jughead too, which is part of the reason I will not watch this. I really disliked when they made him a single father in the movie.
I didn't say the movie was connected. It's still something to avoid, even if it's slightly better than what this drama sounds like.
Okay so I sat down and watched Episode Two. Bloody hell. This one wasn't as bad as the first, but they made Weatherbee black. Again I get there going to be some forced Diversity, but both Pops and Weatherbee? I'm sorry but they should have chose one or the other not both. Frankly they should have gotten a fat white guy to play Weatherbee, not a skinny black guy. The jury is still out on Jughead. Oh forced Diversity, they made Reggie Asian. Yeah... I didn't notice that in the last episode, but ... okay whatever. They guy got Reggie right so fine, whatever. Oh and the rendition of Candy Girl was just wrong. That's the Archies song not the Pussycats. Edit 1: Spoiler Okay started episode three. They made Chuck Claton a stereotypical black *squee!* jock. Chuck was an artist. A nice guy. They made him a *squee!*ing stereotype jerk? I'm really getting sick of this show. The last episode was okay, but this one...it's starting to look bad. Edit 2: This is another casting nitpick not really a spoiler, Dilton is supposed to be the shortest member of the group. He's not supposed to be as tall as Jughead. Edit 3: Spoiler Is everyone in this show stuck up? Bloody hell. Josie's interaction with Archie... Edit 4: Spoiler Now they've turned Dilton from a inventor to a "Hardcore Survialist".... Jughead may be a redeaming factor, but I really wonder how much redemption this series needs
To be quite honest, I've never read an issue of Archie Comics in my life. I just wasn't interested. That said, if you guys don't like this adaptation, I probably won't either.
Actually, if you've never read an issue of Archie Comics, then you actually might enjoy the show. It's kinda like how kids like Teen Titans Go! and the Powerpuff Girls reboot, because they never saw the original and have nothing to compare it to.
